If you have a dog please hug them right now. You can not imagine
the pain when they leave you. Thanks again for your kind words.

What an awful way to lose her, big hugs to you. You are not alone in your grief though, lots of us on here know what its like to feel that pain.
You mustn't tear yourself up though, saying its your fault, it won't help you move on.
Don't feel guilty either about having another dog, another dog will never be her, you are right, but you wouldn't want them to be her, she was herself, each one is an individual and you love them in different ways.
When you feel ready to have another, you'll find that even though they don't take her place, they will ease the pain, give you something to focus on, instead of that empty space she has left.
Have a good cry, talk it over with someone, like the Blue Cross link that Chris posted for you. Don't be hard on yourself though, at least she went quickly and didn't suffer too long.
Take care, RIP Mitzy0 -
Don't feel guilty - not your fault. That won't take away the sadness but don't blame yourself. Give yourself time to grieve - things will change in time (though you'll always miss them).
Please don't feel you have done anything wrong0 -

Time, sounds trite but that's all that's going to help.
Mutt went in August and I spend the first couple of weeks avoiding going home as the house felt so empty. The bowls stayed down for a couple of weeks because I couldn't face moving them. The box is still there, minus the smelly blankets, because moving it is too final. And I talk to her every day.
You move on eventually because you have to - we know when we get our pets that at some point we're going to have to say goodbye and it's going to be devastating. But we choose to do it because of the love that they give us. You cry over their loss and you smile when you remember the fun that you had. And eventually the smiles come more often than the tears. And you have 3 years worth of smiles to remember.
Just try to be kind to yourself and not beat yourself up too much about how she went. Accidents happen. And that's what it was - a tragic accident.
It will get better. Sometime. Just bear with it till then. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I'm so sorry, what a horrible thing to happen, and in front of your children too

Also try and remember, most animals never get a loving home or experience that caring from someone. You gave yours that and they would have felt it. Yes their life was short but it would have been happy. And you gave them that
