Equifax alert system confusion !

I had a similar email yesterday. When I tried to log into my Equifax account I was given an 0844 number to call ... after being on hold for about 20 min I spoke to someone who said they needed to set up security questions and then wanted me to send them a copy of my passport and driving license!!! Is this normal? I have ended my Equifax 'subscription' as a result of that call and cannot help but feel something didn't ring true.Tony0
