Which TV Recording system?

Hello, not sure if I have the right thread. I am currently with Virgin and am very happy with the Tivo box, especially being able to record more than one programme at a time.
However I shall be moving to an area which Virgin does not cover and am wondering what my best options are. I have looked at TalkTalk but am worried about the bad reviews and am also wondering about buying a recorder, preferably one which will record more than one programme at a time.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

John Lewis currently have an HD Sony twin recorder for £189 with a 2 year guarantee.
If you want a BIG hard drive they have the DigitalStream with ITB disc, holds about 500 hours of standard definition programmes, for £220. Also a 2 year guarantee.0 -
Thank You ScotsBob I will check these out. If they are good it will beat paying a subscription.0

If you want Freeview plus catch up TV with no subscription then you could look at YouView. Its got access to Now TV from Sky if you want the odd movie. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Your basic 'free' options are either a Freeview or Freesat PVR with twin tuners. In either case, Humax is the brand to go for.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

thank you all, I now have a better idea of what to look for. I have had virgin for years and have therefore not kept up with alternatives.0

Then you will need either a sat dish or an aerial instaling for Freesat or Freeview respectivelyNo free lunch, and no free laptop0

Youview without a doubt. Ive had Sky, BT Vision and this beats them hands down without subscription too. Not only does it record but has catchup for the last 7 days. Then if that isnt enough it has all the on demand players including Now Tv from Sky if your into your films etc.
Great bit of kit!0 -
Thanks for the added information, just back from holiday, so trying to catch up. I feel really ignorant, as I have mentioned I have had all my services from Virgin for well over 10 years and apart from the fact that I know I do not want an ugly dish I was not at all sure what was available.
You have all been very helpful and I will now start shopping around0 -
Thanks for the heads up, some think that a satellite dish is neater than an aerial, you got to have one or t'other!:DThat gum you like is coming back in style.0

No dish = no Freesat, so Freeview is your only option if so.
A sat dish can be placed at ground level, covered with a shrub and and be virtually invisible. Why do people persist in thinking that they have to be attached to the house? All that is required is a line of sight to the satellite. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
