    All was going well, until I came down one morning to find the contents of the fridge on the floor :eek: The cheese had been gnawed, the creme fraiche enjoyed and there was a pleasing tongue sculpted butter shape in the fridge door.

    I wondered if perhaps I hadn't closed the door properly.... until I watched him roll onto his back in front of the fridge, stretch out, hook his claws into the rubber seal and pull. Job done, fridge door open.

    I can only imagine his disappointment to have finally broken into the fridge of a vegetarian...

    :rotfl::rotfl: What a clever fella!

    You might find what you are feeding is too low fat. Cats evolved to eat protein and fat not carbohydrates, fat is very satiating and that is exactly what he has gone for in your fridge. Maybe try a more natural grain/ cereal free dry food? The worst combination for weight is fat and carbs, because carbs cause insulin release which encourages fat to be laid down.

    ..... welcome to the world of being absolutely besotted by your pets :) wonderful isn't it!:D

    Strangely enough I had no intention of getting another cat. I had lost my beloved cat the Bear just a few weeks before. The Bear was also a rescue cat, although a much older boy, he was 12 when he adopted me. He never had any settling in issues, he acted like he had always lived with me.

    The Bear terrorised the neighborhood, not a single cat came anywhere near my house, even dogs looked nervous. He was a prolific hunter managing to get a whole live chicken through the catflap...

    He got dementia and rapidly deteriorated, walking in tight circles or walking into a corner and not being able to get out. It broke my heart to see him like that.

    I made the terrible decision to put him to sleep, the vet assured me there was no coming back from his dementia. I cried for ages. For his last meal I hand fed him a tub of Philadephia cheese, his very favourite food in the world. He was individually cremated and I buried his ashes in a milk churn that sits on my patio. The churn is filled with plants that will show white flowers all year. I loved the idea that my cat was in a milk churn, he would have liked it full of milk!

    Then my not so little ragamuffin turned up and my vow about not having another cat hit the deck...

    This feeding malarkey is very confusing :D Should I take him off the Royal Canin low calorie dry mix, do you think? I only bought a small packet to start with. What dry mix do you recommend?

    IMO try the Feline Porta 21 Sensible, it's the only grain free one of their range and very well priced. But do switch slowly to allow the digestive enzymes and guy flora the chance to adapt, you may get tummy upsets switching from a high cereal to high meat food. :)
