Wow, he is eating too much.

And by the way, I dont know if anyone has let you know that you musn't feed cats milk, it is bad for their kidneys. This came from the Vet.

Yu must let her know who is boss or she will take major advantage of you,

I've never given him milk, just clean water everyday, which to my knowledge he hasn't touched. He prefers to drink from the birdbath, dirty water tastes best!

That gives me some hope that he will settle down, thank you! The exercise regime is a brilliant idea, playing ball with him is a good start. He is afraid of anything that makes a noise, meaning the balls with bells have been relegated to a box. He is also afraid of the bird on stick type toys, just runs away and hides under the bed. He is not the bravest of cats...

I have been looking at other types of cat food, the Bozita range seems to be well thought of. I was also looking to getting at Zooplus via Quidco. I could probably pick up a laser pen too!

I buy my catfood via zooplus and highly recommend them. I buy James Wellbeloved but via topcashback as you don't have to pay a yearly fee.

He sounds like wee cat ..... she's even scared of the laser pen  and struggling to find something to increase her exercise (she rarely goes out & only for 10 mins or so at a time as she has a gammy knee).

Our 5 get the correct amount of dry measured out in the morning, and when it's gone, it's gone, no grazing.

Depending on which wet I feed, they have one pouch each (or its equivalent) at night time, and on occasion a small amount of dry each for supper.

I ignore any pleas of hunger in between times.

In terms of exercise, I personally prefer Da Bird feather type toys over laser ones. Laser toys will give your cat exercise, but it is thought that they get frustrated as they chase their "prey" but never actually catch it. With the feathers, they can physically catch the prey and have a bit of a chew on it before they fly away again. Then every so often, the feathers can be changed ;)

Ohhhhh feeling a spendy day coming on!:o

Just discovered a feather toy thing lying around and have spent the last 10 mins playing with fat cat (she's exhausted now ;)) - she's had great fun chasing it around and, as Friday says, loves actually being able to catch the feathers ....... off to have a hunt and see if I can find a few more toys for her - really need to try to get some weight off, especially as it's coming up to winter when she ventures out even less than she does in summer:eek: ......

This might be perfect! He loves playing with his ball, combining it with his dry food might just do the trick. Luckily I got a 10% pets@home from the shelter :T I'll do a shopping trip there tomorrow, work today, unfortunately...

I stuck to my guns yesterday. He had no more than I had decided on. Eventually he settled down and was no trouble about it. Today I will reduce the food again until by this time next week he is down to a pouch a day and dry food. In the meantime I will order some better quality food and start transferring him over.

He is terrified of the bird on stick type toys. He only plays with his ball and catnip mouse.

Oh bless her! I'm definitely going to get the slim ball. I think he'll like that. Whilst I'm shopping I will look at the food too. I was wondering if the Applaws (sp?) was any good?

  • Cats are a bit different to us. As they are obligate carnivores, they will eat until they have had enough protein. If they get a food with high carbs and low protein they could overeat trying to get the protein that they need.

I feed my cats a grain-free, high protein food. They like Applaws, but their current favourite is zooplus' Porta 21 Feline Finest Sensible. It is grain free and is good for cats with allergies or sensitivities.

My cats eat a lot less now. They have lost weight and my oldest's allergies have cleared up. I also spend a LOT less on food as they eat so little!

Thank you for adopting a cat. He is very lucky to have such a good home!
