Help! New iPhone with T-mobile texts as picture messages
Hi,
My bf has been with T-Mobile for years and upgraded to iPhone4 about 3 or 4 months ago, £36 p/m. He pays all bills by DD so doesn't pay much attention to bank statements (I'm guilty of this too, hate looking at my overdraft!) but looked yesterday and found he's been billed around £130 p/m since upgrading.
It turns out that every text he's sent since getting the iPhone has been a picture message which isn't included in his package so he's been billed almost £100 p/m on top of his plan. He's gutted he didn't pay more attention to his bank statement and spot it sooner.
He hasn't had an iPhone before and just plugged it in and started using, not realising he was sending picture messages which cost extra. He's due a call from t-mobile on Monday to discuss it: he's been a loyal customer for years and it's not his fault that his phone was automatically sending picture messages instead of texts so I think it'd be fair if they refunded at least part of these charges. But he's worried they'll just say it's tough which I think seems a bit harsh.
Have you got any advice for how he should approach this with t-mobile? Any help welcome.
Thanks in advance,
losbor99

When you write a text on the iPhone, there are two lines, the top one says "Subject". If you write anything in there it changes to send as an MMS. This is indicated at the top as it will change from "New Message" to "New MMS".
If he goes into Settings > Messages and turns the "Show Subject Field" off then that will help....
Unfortunately it sounds like it was his fault as it looks like user error, so you're at the mercy of T-Mobile with regards to a refund..I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
Yes, when I ran an I T department and users ran into trouble, we had an internal code "DNRTFM".
The letters stood for "Did Not Read The Manual".
The missing "F" ? Guess !0 -
When someone sent me a mms on my 3GS it defaulted to mms thereon in...but in USA mms/sms are generally the same rate. Do as above...SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe
