For the early adapters what do you think of windows 8?

As I see it, they've taken Windows 7 and slapped a noddy front-end on it that was designed (if "designed" is a suitable word for that ridiculous eyesore) for a smart phone, and then taken out the Windows (aka Start) menu to force you to use it.0 -
I can see a lot of good things about it, but I hate how cluttered the "all applications" bit is. If you had, under right-click, the option to create a desktop shortcut for stuff like computer or control panel, then it'd be so much better.
I also fear for security. With windows being linked to the windows live ID, all it takes for you to lose access to your computer is for someone to hack your win-live login, and they can log in elsewhere, change your password, locking you out of your PC remotely, while anything stored on the cloud is theirs to peruse and abuse.
I tried logging into one machine at work while the net was down and it flat out refused, wouldnt even give me the option to log in as a local user

Yes - I'm not ready to join Microsoft's cloud.0

Like it. I never was a 'start menu' addict. I always preferred the more 'open' layout of earlier windows versions. I think Win 8 is a return to that feel. I've found one programme that doesn't run well (Stellarium) but I'm sure a fix will be along soon.
On balance, one vote for Win 8.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
I agree that the Start Menu is not the only way to do things - I prefer OS X's dock.0

A quick question, I've not even trialled it.
I originally bought the Win7 Retail version for £49, i.e to allow transfer between machines.
I've been reading around and I've seen it suggested that the upgrade 'kills' your Win 7 key, so there's no going back.
*If* I upgrade I don't think I'll be using my precious Win7 key, will find a way around it.
Anyone have a definitive answer?Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I didn't like Ubuntu Unity at first, but actually I do now.debitcardmayhem wrote: »I certainly don't like the Ubuntu unity , but then again I like windows-8te
One of its issues however is that you can only set the icon size if you are running Unity 3D, ie. on a better graphics card; I don't see why it's not available across the board.
I've got some of my own icons there and also menus off them.
The big thing is that it appears consistent and in harmony with the rest of the GUI (as opposed to the mismatched bolt-on of Windows 8).0
