Windows 8 pro upgrade £24-99 question

I would like to get this via download (if thats how it comes) rather than buying the dvd for 50 quid. I got to where I put my name and address in and im thinking that the next part will be bank details. Now I do not want to install on on this pc as I have a new one coming with no Operating system.

So basically will I get an 8 download that I can put onto dvd and install on my new pc from the microsoft website.

The £24.99 offer is an UPGRADE, to be installed on any PC that currently has a qualifying operating system. You cannot use it to install Windows 8 on a machine that has no operating system.
How do I add a signature?

I thought that was going to be the case. If I install XP which I have on dvd can I upgrade then?

Is XP a full retail version, or OEM (supplied with/on a previous PC)?

Perhaps you can hold your horses until the machine actually arrives. :)

Unless they have changed the installer since it was released then it will install on a clean machine.

  • I did an upgrade on a laptop which has not gone very well so I formatted the disk and did a clean fresh install from the DVD I had made from the download.

So you can install on a computer that has no OS pre-installed.

I am now going to use that DVD to upgrade my 32 bit OS to 64 bit, or at least see if it will install using my 32 bit product key.

The download is 2GB. You CAN burn a DVD or make a bootable USB stick (which will install faster) and then you CAN install fresh. I just did. Point being, you have already downloaded it from Win Xp/Vista/7, so it is an upgrade.

I have since found that although it will install on a clean machine, it will not activate as states that the key is for an upgrade and not new install.

Further problem that I have encountered is that I downloaded it via my desktop which is running 64bit, hence I have a 64 bit copy. Theintention was to put it on my old laptop running 32 bit XP. Nope you can't do that either.
