Virgin Disconnection Charge!!!

I was a virgin media (broadband) customer for 3 years, recently moved away and they are charging me a £24 disconnection charge?? is this correct, don't have the original T&C's. Also the first i heard of this outstanding bill was the 28th Oct letter dated the 26th and today i get a letter from moorcroft debt recovery ltd, this all seems a little fast as they haven't even called me to discus the debt?

any guidence would be gratfully accepted here?

If this was Virgin National (ADSL service), then yes, it's the cease charge levied by BT OR for disconnection, and recharged by your ISP.
Did you give them your new contact details to send the final bill to?

Ah, by 'move away' I thought you meant 'left the property'. In which case, did you use a MAC to transfer your service over? If you did so, there should be no cease charge.
This is assuming an ADSL to ADSL transfer, which you haven't confirmed.

  • Yes i gave the MAC code to Sky to complete the transfer and it was Virgin National ADSL, should i contest the charge then?

Yes, if that is what it is and it was used within the 30 day limit.

unless of course you left before the minimum term of your Virgin Media Contract was up - therefore they have charged you the fee to complete that period.

Note, although you had been with them for three years, any changes etc made during your subscription may have caused a new minimum term to commence.

The issue remains, on Virgin National you are billed the cost of restoring the line to BT - and your ADSL service with the new supplier will similarly make this charge should you change again. It will have been stated in the Terms of Service, but is seldom noticed or taken notice of at the time the connection is installed.

It does not matter how long you've been a customer - only Virgin cable customers can avoid it.

I have no landline and have been thinking about getting one for a 12 month period initially. Are you saying that if a took out a year with plusnet for example, then decided to return to mobile broadband, I couldn't avoid a fee however much notice I gave? If so then that is outrageous, especially considering I will no doubt have paid an installation fee! I can think of no other business that has an unavoidable end fee (apart from mortgage redemption).
