O2 PAYG Credit

Just renewed another 12 months with O2 broadband (50% off every month - £6.25 for blood good broadband and unlimited downloads). I pay £10 every three months onto my PAYG mobile with O2, and currently have £37 on there.

Have been told by O2 that I can't transfer this credit so I can buy an O2 mobile to put the sim card in.

Disappointing, but understandable

It doesn't have to be an o2 mobile. Any unlocked mobile will do.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Yes - but I have £37 built up, and I don't use my O2 sim at all, as I'm with giffgaff

Yes, I know, but you don't need an O2 mobile to use it. Just use it up in an old unlocked handset, or swap the SIM in your existing handset.
I'm not clear as to where you were planning to 'transfer' the credit?
Even if you top up to get the broadband discount and never use the PAYG, you will still be £20 up each year (paying £40 to save £60).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I was disappointed that I couldn't use that credit to buy a phone with O2. I don't have any use for the sim card, so its redundant and I was hoping to be able to use the credit elsewhere within O2

Just use it to make outgoing calls on another handset.
As I said, even if it's not used, it's still saving you money on your broadband.
You have never been able to use call credit to buy other services.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Or use it as your sim to make 08** and international calls?

But that doesn't make sense. Sim credit is for calls, texts and data - of course you can use it to buy a phone!

If you don't start using the credit, the account could be suspended and you will lose that credit.

Stop using (and paying for) the giffgaff sim and use the O2 sim to make calls,

I've spotted a typo "can" should be "can't":( Hope my meaning was clear from the rest of this post.
