Is Wi-Fi safe?

My WiFi has been on all week, but tonight I will switch it off.
Why? Because I just glanced a Sunday newspaper front page in a "tomorrows papers" clip on tv.
It seems there's a big front page story about WiFi being unsafe for kids or something. I didn't catch which paper it was. Sounds like some experts have changed their minds.
I do hope it wasn't the Mail! Just for a change it would be nice to see such a story in one of the others:-)
Edit...ooh, there it is again, and it's the Indy ...

oh well, guess I'd better pop out and read it in the morning ....
Oh no need, the story is online ... http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/health_medical/article2472133.ece0 -

Good Find.
"So far only a few, faint warnings have been raised, mainly by people who are so sensitised to the electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobiles, their masts and Wi-Fi that they become ill in its presence. The World Health Organisation estimates that up to three out of every hundred people are "electrosensitive" to some extent. But scientists and doctors - and some European governments - are adding their voices to the alarm as it becomes clear that the almost universal use of mobile phones may be storing up medical catastrophe for the future.
A recent authoritative Finnish study has found that people who have used mobiles for more than ten years are 40 per cent more likely to get a brain tumour on the same side of the head as they hold their handset; Swedish research suggests that the risk is almost four times as great. And further research from Sweden claims that the radiation kills off brain cells, which could lead to today's younger generation going senile in their forties and fifties."
Looks like im not the only one that has suffered ill effects of this

I think the anti wifi and mobile masts people use the word radiation intentionally to frighten people. It is correct to use the word radiation but most people associate it with ionising radiation.
However, I would disagree that ionising radiation is "extremely dangerous" as I've said in earlier posts0 -
I'd imagine your sleep will be affected more by the amount you worry about your sleep, than the amount of waves flowing through the air.
Anyway, god bless WI-FI! If it weren't for this technology, I wouldn't be able to browse and sleep at the same time..... hmmm.... dream browsing....Throwing acid is bad.... in some peoples eyes...0 -

I agree, these people do use the generic "radiation" term for scare-mongering.
However, ionising radiation, in significant power, in my opinion, is extremely dangerous and destructive to living tissue - causing DNA damage and mutations. Even ultraviolet light is of this type, but very weak. Simple layman's ionising radiation sources would be x-rays and gamma rays.
However, it's important to point out that microwaves and radio-waves are all non-ionising. And that includes Wi-Fi.
Millions of radiation waves pass through us constantly, and some people have managed to live to over 100 years old in this world!0 -
Hi All,
I've created an article about the reasons why you need to make sure your wireless network is secure. This is located here;
http://www.broadbandwirelesshelp.com/wireless-security/reasons-to-secure-your-wireless-network.html
You may find it useful. Also there are other articles regarding Wi Fi Securty on the site.

As if this thread didn't cover enough, it's now getting spam as well."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It is true that ionising radiation can be extremely dangerous, but only at fairly high doses. You mentioned that radio waves are all around us but this also applies to ionising radiation from natural sources. However, it's important to point out that microwaves and radio-waves are all non-ionising. And that includes Wi-Fi.
I agree that the fact that radio waves are non-ionising needs to be explained as you say. Many people are not aware of the difference or the significance. I've seen mobile phone mast protesters waving ionising radiation (trefoil) banners! :rolleyes:0 -

The problem is your are ignoring the point of people actually having suffered side affects from using these device(s) as you personally have not experinced any, and class it as scare mongering or anti this and that and write it off.
There are more and more reports coming out in relation to increases in lukemia in children and other ill effects to people who have been in close proximation of mobile masts etc. ioninsing or non ionsing, its having an effect on peoples health.
Earlier in this thread I posted about ill effects that i had using these devices.
Its not because im anti wifi, or scaremongering, I personally embrace latest technology and normally have the latest gadget going because I love using new technology have spent quite a bit in the past getting it, including having a personall wireless network years ago, untill i got rid of it.
The link I gave about the school is another point that people are getting ill, Its not all in their heads or they dont know what they are talking about.0
