Ever since updating to Internet Explorer 9 I've had endless problems.

Latest is that videos don't run.

I keep getting message "You need the latest flash player to see this video".

Ok - so I've downloaded/installed Adobe Flash Player. Three times! It tells me 'Flash Player 11 sucessfully installed".

But when I search for it - it doesn't appear on my laptop and I still can't get video.

Where the h*ll is it being installed? Why? How? when......?

I also often get an error message at the bottom of the screen "An add-on failed to run". What add on? How do I make it run?.....

Flash has had many such faffs recently, use adobe's own removal tool to bin it then download a fresh copy...

    Many thnks waddler but unfortunately....

I've checked 'Shockway Flash Objects' as advised in that link, and it was already enabled.

I've also checked ActiveX filtering - it was already off.

    But still no flash player!

Thanks gunjack - do you mean within Adobe on my laptop? If so, I can't, as I said
when I search for it - it doesn't appear on my laptop
or do you mean from Adobe's website somewhere? where?

edit - just tried download Adobe Flash Player again. All goes well. End with message:
    Installation successful

You are now running Adobe Flash Player

But is it on my laptop...? NO!

    * Try to run a video and get "You must install the latest version of Adobe Flash"

    * enter "Adobe" into the search function and.... there's Adobe Acrobat. But where's Flash....? Ugh!

Have you tried using a different browser and seeing if their flash plugins work okay?

flash player will be in the list of Programs and features in the control panel, remove from there, or

    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

Thanks - looked in Programmes/Features and find

    * Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin (installed 2010) and
    * Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX (installed 4/11/12)

Where would these acually be located? When I look in 'program files' folder or 'Program files (x86)' I only find Adobe Acrobat.

If they are eleswhere, might that be why they don't run? But then again, why does the search function not find them?

Use Chrome. IE is a horrible browser.

That's certainly an option to consider. What will Chrome do that IE doesn't? What makes IE 'horrible' IYO?

    64bit - %windir%\system32\macromed\flash

    and/or

    32bit - %windir%\syswow64\macromed\flash

    (%windir% = C:\windows usually)

Great. Found it. All in C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash

    So it's there - but won't run.

There's a couple of sites I've found that allow you to test Flash installed correctly, where the test video does not run.

Sadly these sites (one is Adobe) fail to tell you what to do if it's not showing as installed, other than de-install/re-install.

    Which I've done 3 times.

I've also checked 'scripting' is enabled in internet options.

I also noticed a load of settings for activeX controls - Might it be these? what should they be set to?
