Is it true that when you change from a normal boiler to a combi, you have to replace all your pipework in the house?

I don't think so. I changed to a combi condensing boiler last year and the only new pipes that were needed were those connecting the boiler to the system, not right through the house.
I'm sure that someone with expert knowledge will be along soon to answer your question.0 -
Thank you Lucy
Also, if we do change our old boiler, is it law now that we have to replace it with a Combi, or can we still get a normal boiler with hot water tank.
Thank you anybody?0 -

Good morning: If you change from a regular boiler to a condensing combination boiler, modification to some of your pipework would be necessary e.g.upgrading size of gas supply, removing redundant pipework associated with old system etc. Building regulations (with very few exceptions) require replacement boilers to be condensing (any type). Documents produced by the Energy Saving Trust explain how new gas central heating systems should be specified and dispel myths about condensing boilers.

I have recently been discussing replacing our boiler system with a condensing boiler and have been informed that i will not need to replace all my pipes but that some radiators may leak with the new system as they are not to be replaced, but this is mainly because we don't know the age of the system and the boiler man just wants to let me know due to guarantees. I really want to convert as my boiler turns itself on when i have turned it off! I also think i need to get my loft insulated, so must get on with researching how best to do this! Good luck!Leopardlady

WE changed to a condensing boiler and some of our radiators are 38 years old.
No problems so far.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Check with your council before you get the loft insulated - ours has a discounted deal with a company plus £60 off the council tax bill
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!
