    hehehe, quite funny :D

At first I was a sceptic. However, after trying them out properly they're great. I enjoy using both for different reasons.

A LOT of people I know are looking to linux based softwares over the intense windows OS's. Many of whom are die hard windows users.

Windows is so successful because of it's marketing ploy of being installed on most mass produced PC's. Therefore the average user doesn't know any different...or any better ;) Clever business strategy, and hence why Bill is worth soooo much! But it doesn't make it any better.

Vista, has been released and look at the amount of things that don't work. They've been premature in thinking about drivers, and the speed it will work on many people's machines. Windows are attempting to dominate (and always have - purely because of their marketing strategies of the past) the technology that people use - just to run their OS. A move they can take because of their power.

I see the advantages of each. As a user friendly and way of life user, the mac wins hands down. It's just simple to use. It runs really smooth. No need for installing everything! It's great for networking in the home and dead simple to get up and going. I have knowledge and experience of both, and a PC is a much more textbook approach to getting up and running.

I like the fact people are looking to linux and mac and other OS's. I think it's a better move for development to people's personal needs - rather than just putting up with what we've always known.....sorry - I mean been told.

    :)

Up until recently I was happily using a Windows 2000 laptop.

What got really, really frustrating was that Microsoft seemed to be deliberately making sure all their new products wouldn't run with it.

I don't expect MS to support old OSs for ever, but the perception is that a lot of stuff that will happily run on 2000 without the slightest problem is set to refuse it on the install.
MS Defender is one example that was 2000 in all the Beta releases and then they decided for the final version it was going to be XP only.

Won't be long till MS have lots of shiny new products, and new versions of existing products, stamped Vista Only

MS are marketing experts, it doesn't really matter that their software is a mess of bugs and system heavy features. Features is just the sugary topping that makes people want things. Performace, stability, reliability, speed, their the things you really want. Not features.

I’m still deciding whether it is safe to upgrade from Windows 3.1 yet.

    Nothing wrong with DOS.

  • Here we go again lets slag Microsoft off again. Im sick of ready stuff like this it ain't microsofts fault that hardware companys haven't kept up its not like Vista has appeard out of the blue. If so many of you hate bill gates why are you all running xp and the like. Nobody seems to mind when car companys bring a new version each year. You could always use an apple mac but think youll find a big price difference. I thinks its time to change the record and leave Vista be.
Don't listen to the bad things about Vista its the best

Just because it's free don't mean it's good

    Ditch Norton Now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall:

Just Because you read it some where don't mean it's right ;)

Changing to Linux was the best thing I ever did. You plug new stuff in and it just works. There aren't even any of those "helpful" installing wizards.

No panic so they wont be installing it on new machines in 2008 .... you dont hear anyone complaining they get more loft insulation in new houses or thicker double glazing ...... look at it logicaly you wouldnt buy a 2001 reg car at new 2008 prices would you.

PC get cheaper every year anyway, the security support will still be there for a good few years and after that ... who really keeps a PC 10 years with out upgrading ..???
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
