To be fair all the first versions of microsoft OS's have been terrible, they are more of a public beta in my opinion. look at 98 first edition, XP before SP2, both terrible. I will certainly wait until there is a service pack before using Vista.
Also this doesn't mean they will stop supporting XP, security fixes etc. will still be released, all the article is saying is that new PC's won't be shipped with XP.
Quote:
"Mr Epstein said withdrawing XP licences had no implications for long-term technical support for the product.
"This is purely about availability of brand new licences for brand new machines," he said. "We'll continue to support XP for some considerable time."0 -
no I didn't know
I beta tested vista
which to me was a souped up version of xp really
you can get xp from
https://www.ebuyer.com
I have 2 xp licence's
my son is a gamer and most of his games wont even work with vista,
(online gamer)
I want to get windows pro next as I want to build him a new pc in the next couple of weeks
then the his xp home licence I have can go on a test machine,
but intend getting a very nice lamborghini laptop for my 50th birthday in 4 years time, so I'll have to go with whatevers out then,

Vista is a real pain in the bum for driver support, I have a dual boot as much as Vista is pretty I hardly use it due to some hardware not supported properly and it aint legacy products either.
I think MS are pushing Vista as my friend who is in the trade tells me that very few customers (mainly business) want Vista anyhow, the licensing works even more in favour of the robbing M$0 -
I did try ubuntu and still have the cd
so I just use them in the future,
I already use most of the programs with xp
so it wouldn't be much of a problem for me as I just use my pc for the web,
shopping,
and photobucket,
I dont do downloads like mp3 or movies,
dont see the point if I want to see a movie I'd rather but them
you can usually pick them up cheap enough at tesco jersey or play.com
so maybe linux is the way forward now

That's right, it's the future - like garlic bread.
