Supanet woes

I’ve read about Supanet plenty over the last few days, always interesting to read new horror stories. In order to keep it short. I signed up for a contract in march 2011, bundled phone and broadband £31.98. The email from Suapnet shouts “Fixed price for 12 months”. Suapnet have been aggressive in phoning me over the last week, to sign to another contract but despite their best attempts, I told them I wasn’t interested. They phoned again a few days later, same thing and they quoted my current bill was £44 a month. I asked why this was and was told that I was paying for anti-virus that I didn’t even know anything of. Considering I have anti-vrus and I am paying for that anyway. It now turns out that every tow months through the contract period, Supanet increased my monthly payment for what they call “fixed services”, every two months they too a bit more until close to the end of the contract they had increased it enough to reach the magical £44 and they have been charging that ever since. Where the cost of the anti virus is, I have no idea. Getting through to “billing” is impossible.

I’d already been planning on leaving them. I’ve contacted a potential new provider who says that I need to sign with them and then try and get my MAC but I’m not too sure. I’m expecting trouble from Supanet, at least the “disconnection fee”, which according to their terms is only payable if you cancel and don’t request a MAC. The other thing they may try on is a phantom contract. I already have phantom anti-virus!

I did speak with Citizen’s Advice who advised to stop trying to ring them and write to the head office citing breach of contract on the increasing amounts and request this back (£182 including the inflated cost since March 2012). It’s been no more specific than that and nothing as to how I deal with cancellations or in the event of no response to the letter. I dare not set up a new deal like the provider said I should, just in case.

Supanet are driving me nuts and I just want to get away from these vile clowns once and for all but I have no idea what is what anymore.

Thanks for reading.

Ring them up and request a MAC, they have to provide one within a week. Once you have it its valid for 30 days. Choose the new ISP of your choice, and give them the MAC. That way you should avoid the £30 odd cease charge levied by BT OR.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
