Someone Tried To Hack Into My Gmail Account!

    You broke the cardinal rule-never ever log into an account via a hyperlink sent to you by email, whether you think it's genuine or not.
    Open your browser and access your Gmail account from there, then reset the password.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    I know I was really stupid. I don't even know why I did it myself to be honest.

    I think I panicked.

    I did change my password once people on here kindly advised me to through Gmail it's self not through the link.

    You were not stupid, all of us can be scammed, no matter how experienced we are, these sickos are thinking up clever new scams every day. I dont know how they sleep nights.

    2 factor authentication takes a little work to set up, but is ideal to prevent anything like this as it depends on something you have plus something you know. In this case your phone makes up a new 6 digit number every minute, so you have to put that in add well as your password. The idea is that either the phone alone or the password alone odds not enough to gain access.

    In this case the email was a fake I am sure - google wouldn't say they were a hijacker, they would ask if you had approved it.
