Or Greegs or pret a whatever.....

Greegs seems to be shop by shop if it works or want to use it, they have not trained there staff, some still are not use to the fact they now take cards.

I absolutely don't want a contactless card. So far I haven't got one but I don't know if they will be pushed on us.

They will once all card issuers use this system. MBNA are all contacless for instance.

I wasn't particularly trying to stimulate a debate on the perceived merits (or otherwise) of contactless cards - there is plenty of that on here already! I appreciate everyone has different opinions and spending habits that may influence whether they wish to use them or not.

As I make use of contactless technology quite a bit - I find it saves me hassle and time when it's busy - then any new card I'm going to get needs to have it (and increases its utility as a 'stooze' card as well).

Not sure if it's possible to opt out, didn't have a choice with Barclaycard (had it since 2005, it became contactless on renewal last year) and MBNA is a new card, though my previous MBNA (Virgin) card wasn't (closed 18 months ago).

That said, carrying two or more (BC & MBNA in my case) means the signals scramble each other, so you don't accidentally make a contactless payment (which I did when I first got the replacement Barclaycard, way home from the airport about 11pm at an emergency McDonalds, I inserted my usual spending card as normal only to be told "transaction completed", no PIN etc. which confused me and the McDonald's staff. I cover my pin using my wallet, containing the new contactless card, which activated and automatically paid much to my annoyance!).

Mmm. OK - Thanks everyone. I'll drop Halifax a message to see if they are issuing new customers with contactless cards - there's some chatter via Google that they are if you request it. Seems the best I can do.
x-plorer, did you find out about this?

There now seems to be some conflicitng views on this since london transport starting taking contactless payments.
Seems some people have had debits on both oyster and contactless cards or 2 contactless cards.

We are not sure if this is just a error on LT part or a inkling of something to be aware of in the future.
