Sharp practice because I already have travel insurance, I dont need or want E-Bookers version, I buy it on an annual policy, so why should I want it the instant I book my holiday? It wasn't a holiday, I travel often. I wouldnt have bothered, but I'd already spent too long on the pc looking for cheap flights, I was in a hurry, so I bit the bullet. I wasnt given the option to confirm, only to buy. You want the flight, you buy the insurance, full stop. That's not right, sorry.
I haven't ever experienced a company which won't let you state that you've got your own insurance. If that's what Ebookers do (i.e. make you buy their own) then I agree with your initial view!
  • Can't believe that my first post is going to be a grumble but heyho :)

I agree though, definitely avoid eBookers. I tried to book car hire with them and to cut a very long story short (a story not dissimilar to the original post), I was told 3 times by email that my booking was confirmed...then I was sent two emails advising me that payment had been accepted...cue an irate YelloWellies phoning their useless customer services...then I'm told that payment hadn't been taken at ALL. After much ado, payment is processed but it costs me an extra £5 for the car I wanted as the price had gone up in the time I'd spent bickering with them...argh. THEN they call me to say they can't get the car I had paid for...I tell them I'll call back, and when I do they have no record of my booking reference.

Finally I demand that they tell me who the car hire company they were using was...it's Avis...I phone and tell them about my debacle and they sort it for me within a few minutes. Car booked. Simple.

Steer clear of eBookers, they're only likely to give you a hernia.

Yep...me too! I have used ebookers twice, oncein 2005 and once today. The first occasion saw me trailing from Manchester to Liverpool when I should have been on a flight to Orlando and this episode today has cost me £35 to cancel a flight which I have just booked !!! Absolutely dreadful service from the indian call centre and certainly no individuality or understanding.

I book flights on line regularly but I wouldn't recommend ebookers I'm afraid.

and.....when i explained to the lady at the airline company that ebookers were extremely unhelpful she said that she wasn't suprised and that this was a regular occurence.

We booked a complicated set of flights with eBookers to get back from Norway to Birmingham. It was a good price, and we thought we were all set.

Then I started to worry when I thought we should have received some sort of email confirmation. Sure enough, they never sent one (despite the website giving you every confidence that we'd booked).

Rang their Indian call centre and they said my booking was not confirmed (reason: the airline had "cancelled the booking". Hmmmm), so had to book again. By this point the flights had gone up by £60 when we had to go through the whole process again.

Waited a few hours and yet again, no email confirmation came. So rang them back and they then did something which finally got our flights confirmed. If it wasn't for me checking again, we would have lost these flights too!

Moral of the story - don't use them. And if you do, triple-check you get email confirmation from them that you're flights have actually been booked!

    Similar experience here ....

Booked car hire through ebooker . Couple of months later Aer Lingus cancelled the flight so I had to rearrange car hire dates . Rang e booker ... they wanted £35 to change to one day earlier pickup and return of car. Instead of that I rang Alamo (in Cork ) and it was done in an instant ... no problem and .....no £35.00 !

Oh dear. I have a £100 voucher to spend with them (competition win) - this is not encouraging reading.
  • E-bookers are nothing but trouble. Terrible CS, no management and explanations that don't make sense!

I tried to cancel a booking made through ebookers and it has been nothing but a nightmare! It all started 2 days before check in. In their terms and condition I could cancel up to 24hr prior to check in for a small fee. I tried to cancel the stupid thing for 2 days straight only to then be charged in full for ano show.

It has got the ppoint that I have now put my credit card company onto them for a fraud and theft because they're broken their own rules.

I will never use e-bookers again. Rubbish service and they can't do the job they promise!!

I have been using Ebookers for a couple of years with no problems

Just last week Thursday cancelled a hotel booking with them, was told I would be refunded within next 10 days, less the £35 fee stated on the hotels cancellation T & C's

Received the refund in my bank this morning....:T

Have had plenty of experiences with them, both good and bad.

On plus side they are usually very competitive.

On the negative they are a middle man operation who have costs honed to the bone and this results in a lightweight customer service operation.

I've used Opodo more successfully recently.

For flights have a look at Momondo...only recently found it and it is really good!
