At 10p/unit you are looking at 60KW in 2hrs or 30KW in 1hr. That is equivalent to 120amps. Don't think the main fuse would stand that for long...;)0

Expresso as I have said in the past....thanks for the feedbackBut I would suggest you help others instead of picking on silly little things...

lilly123, you may find there is a button to press to scroll through the rates and readings, try pressing any on the meter and see what happens (don't worry you won't break it).
Your best bet is, as suggested above, to investigate how your property is heated (do you have gas heating or electric). If it is electric it is probable it runs off the same supply and you are paying for it. Otherwise try speaking to EDF's energy efficiency team, or follow advice given in other threads on this board such as turning off everything at the wall then seeing how much electricity various things use on their own.
Being on a prepayment meter means you will be paying more than a direct debit customer, in addition if you are on an E7 tariff daytime electricity is more expensive so you should try running your washing machine, etc overnight when the electricity is cheaper, also make sure if you have an immersion heater it only comes on overnight as well.
lufupa, it sounds as if energywatch are sorting things out for you now, but if not you can always try the energy ombudsman instead.0 -
I too was fitted with one of these digital meters, two and a half years ago.
Even the official meter reader cannot read it correctly.
The instructions on how to read it say that "1" is the 7 hour nite rate and "2" is the 17 hour day rate. You don't have to press anything, the figures just scroll round continually, just as you are trying, with torch in hand, to read them.
Mind you the instructions are on a sticky label, so perhaps the installer connected the wires up the wrong way round and then corrected his mistake by sticking on the label and the meter reader does not bother to read the sticky label !

I have had a problem with my meter (edf) for the last year and am now on my third meter, the first time clock was 5 hours out then the digital meter they put in only worked on daytime rates, we used 1 economy 7 unit for 3 months(and i run a hot tub at night), my bills werestupidly high but i then got them to change both the meter and the time clock and now i am monitering thereadings for 6 months before i start the procedure for compensation on the overcharging,0

I have been reading your posts about these new Onstream digital meters and about the different rate etc. I had mine fitted yesterday and I don't see any buttons etc to press. Mine is a Single Phase Hour Watt Meter with a row of digits and marked 1000imp/Kwh. It now shows 0000003.9 which I guess is right as it's only just been fitted but I miss the wheel that goes round!0

Does it not have a light that flashes at a rate of 1000 impulses per kWh? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Yes, it does have a light that flashes at regular intervals.0

Instead of a meter? Now why didn't I think of that! So much cheaper.0
