new digital electricity meters

Hi All,

I had one of those new BG electricity meters fitted by Onstream last year. My question to all is which is the day/night reading?

I press a button to cycle the display & the options i see are:

Rate 1
Rate 2
t

Anyone else have a similar meter with BG? if so which is classed as your day/night reading & would BG use different/reverse meters settings for other customers? i.e. if rate 1 is day then say for me that would use it as night rate?

Reason for asking is that depending on who at BG answers the phone i am getting different stories & my bill has shot up since meter change last August & BG dont seem bothered about resolving the case & keep sending letters about cutting me off etc.

Energywatch has not helped as i left messages & no one has called. I was told by a person i spoke to at EW couple of days ago that the person who took down the complaint i logged closed the case as resolved when clearly it was not.

I am really P***ed off with both & dont know what to do.

Any help/advise would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

a very quick and simple way to find out whats what on your meter...

look at the meter at 10am ....it will show what rate you are on...thats your day rate...look at ya meter at 1am and you will see it shows the other rate...we dont set the rates..it depends on the meter that is installed..other way of checking is turn ya eletric kettle on and see what rates moves during the day :)
Hey folks...remember I might work for the company but I am a human and working in my own time, I will not responde to people who are rude, sarcy and crits me. My views and comments do not reflect British Gas and they are totally unreasponsable for my responses.

No wonder BG get a bad name when BritishGasWorker suggests this for an Electric meter:confused:

Now most of us know about cheaper electricity on Economy 7

But you know of a system to get cheaper gas at 1am? - must only be for BG employees;)

  • nice to see how polite some people are on these boards since they can only seem to pick on mistakes perhaps they should take them time in helping instead of picking on others..

hi i have a new digital meter mine only shows rate 1 all the time since this meter was installed in dec 2006 i have been putting 20 pounds on my meter every 4 days, as i only live in a normal house just me and my daughter, i do not use anything like a tumble dryer nor do i have heating as this comes in with my rent, we use just the normal everyday things, i changed to bg and found i was using 24 pound in 4 days so now im back to edf but still using 20 pounds i am begining to wonder if i am paying for my neighbours electricity as well, i have had my meter changed incase it was faulty, i dont burn up electricity by boiling a kettle all day, nor is my tv on all day, at one point i used 6.00 in 2 hours but edf told me i am on the right rate please 6.00 in 2 hours as if i cant seem to get through to them regarding my electricity comsumption like banging my head against a wall, done all the meter readings daily like i was asked to do from edf and when i called them back a week later to give them the reading they didnt seem to be intrested so i guess i wasted my time just wondering if anyone else is having problems like this

You have a very strange idea of helping others as demonstrated in this thread.

How do you heat your water and what type of heating do you have? You say your heating comes as part of your rent, do you know exactly how this works?

at one point i used 6.00(pounds) in 2 hours

That is simply not possible at anything like normal rates.

It means you are using some like 30kW. That is the equivalent of 10 high powered electric kettles or 30 1 bar electric heaters!

Even an immersion heater would only use one tenth of that consumption.
