What operating system and version of Internet Explorer do you have?

Download the standalone installers and install them separately.

I have installed one of the updates but have tried twice and cannot download the one relating to KB2744842. The message says that the file is not a valid Win32 application.0

What service pack do you have installed?
- Click the Start Button
- Right Click Computer
- Click Properties
Under view basic information about your computer > Windows Edition, it should tell you what service pack you have installed.

I have service pack 2.
Avg has run another scan and now I have 5 threats. I have seen them all before but thought three had gone. Besides the ones posted on here earlier I have 3 off of the following different drive but this is the first and the other 2 have the toshiba value added package on the end as in my first post. Are these connected?
The first of the new infected files is:
"E:\MY-PC\Backup Set 2011-08-25 192416\Backup Files 2011-08-25 192416\Backup files 10.zip";"Trojan horse Generic30.HEH";"Infected"
I wont list all 5
When I select remove all unhealed infections a pop up box says
file too big to archive "Go to file" "Ignor" which I do
I then have another box open "Access denied" Moving object to virus vault failed Do you really want to delete this object?
If I say yes box opens "Do you want to force threat removal?
Forced removal can cause system unstability or even crash
Box opens.Threat cannot be used by standard user rights. Do you want to remove threat as power user. Yes / no. If I say yes box opens Some files cannot be healed. general error (0x00700E8)
Sorry its a bit long winded but does this mean that the infections are still ok please?
Would updating to the new AVG have any effect?0 -
Yes, no need to worry, it does mean the "infections" are still ok.
AVG is now detecting the same files in an old backup (Backup Files 2011-08-25 192416) on what I presume is your external hard drive(?).Backup files 10.zip
I still think these are false positives. Untill you submit the files to AVG for analysis it will probably go on detecting them.
Delete the file relating to KB2744842 you have already downloaded & try once more to download & install the file. It could be that it became corrupted during the download.0 -
Thank you for reassuring me re the infections and yet more help but I am still having problems with my updates and hope that you won't mind me asking for more help?
I cannot find the downloaded updates to remove them now I have done a search but no luck.
I have looked at the update history and this one (KB2744842)seems to be the only one that has failed but it has been failing for weeks.0 -
Have one more try at downloading and installing it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34718
Save the file to your desktop before running so you can easily find it.0 -
I have now installed the update with your help thank you so much. It is still trying to update as it would normally and has failed but I can live with that. Thank you again for help.0
