Anyone know how to clean a PC???

Options
Does anyone have any hints or tips on how to clean a PC and keyboard?

The fan in our PC looks like a furball, and the kids eat biscuits over the keyboard so its full of crumbs.

Any ideas anyone - serious suggestions only please!

Compressed "air" cans are actually very good for blowing out the crumbs and dust in keyboards and the same inside a pc.

I have a seventeen year old with a penchant for biscuits while he is on MSN, and I periodically turn the keyboard upside down and give it a good bang on the desk. Aint technology great? :) It dislodges the worst of the crumbs...then I use the pointy attachment thing on the hoover to do the rest. This amazing tool also cleans the fan - when the PC is turned off of course.

As for dislodging *him* from the PC...I await some good response

If you are cleaning inside a pc it's advisable not to use a vacuum, they can generate an awful lot of static and possibly therefore end up damaging the components.

I have been known to simply fill the bath and throw my keyboard in it .. give it a good swill and scrub .... then leave to dry and drain for several days in a warm place. My fault though, I was the one that spilled the Coke.

cleaning inside, use a vaccum cleaner, the static build up can happen with older cleaners Ive used a dyson in ours for years, the idea is you try not to touch anything it will lift the dirt, I use the brush attachment on the fans if you are really worried use a wooden handled paint brush to loosen all the dust then vac it all out.

cans of air are great but you then need to clean the whole area you cleaned the pc in as the dirt goes everywhere.

Using a vacuum is ok as long as you use a plastic attachment

??? Why would a plastic attachment make any difference to the creation of static in the air, plastic can easily become statically charged as well so I don't see your logic.

  • I took all the keys off of my keyboard to clean out all the guck underneath.

Worked a treat. Just remember where they all go back on. I took a photo of the keyboard on my digital camera before I removed them so that I would know where to put them back

Surely chucking the keyboard in the bath totally !!!!s it up!
