AA Membership Renewal
How lucky am I? Got my AA breakdown renewal through yesterday. I am now officially a Gold member, having been a member for a mere 24 years. This FREE upgrade has only cost me an extra £130 (and I notice I am now paying for my complimentary home start!).
Well done AA. You know how to keep your loyal customers ... NOT!

Just do what the rest of us do , tell them what you paid last year , that is what you will pay this year ........ Their choice.0 -
Tell 'em they're dreamin'
Ring them and cancel - they should make you an "offer"."Retail is for suckers"

I tried that last month. They had 'upgraded' me to Silver, and double the price but gave a 25% dicount, still a lot dear than last year . So I shopped around and found a better deal actually cheaper than last year elsewhere. The AA would not match it or give me last years price but would pass it on to a manager for consideration and he would phone me back, needless to say I declined their 'kind' offer and asked again for a quote there and then it was still declined so I cancelled there and then.0 -
As I said on the Praise Vent and Warnings board, this time around I telephoned the AA and threatened to leave the AA and join the RAC. Renewal fee dropped from £67 to £43 - and I get to keep the free home start with the benefits (?) of being a gold member*.
Worth a telephone call.

Thank you each and all. Made the telephone call and got the price down to under £200. Certainly can't sit on your laurels when there's money to be saved0

I asked why my renewal had gone up by nearly 20%. My personal adviser for the day, explained that it was because there had been two price rises. Silly me for asking.
I said that without a satisfactory explanation, I would cancel after 17 continuous years. In she comes with a discount. I ask why I wasn't offered this price in the first place. My personal adviser says that I have to phone if I want a discount as quotations are not personalised. She says that most people expect to have to call.
"Where does it say that on my quotation?"
"It doesn't, otherwise everyone would ask for a discount."
Crackers, the bloody lot of them. RAC introductory offer, under half my AA quote. I know they will probably do the same next year, but I feel better having told the AA where to go.0 -
I've been with the AA for more years than I care to remember (30+), and it's only in the last 2-3 years that I've had to play silly B's over my renewal. When it comes through I go to their website and get an online quote including the "freebie" relay I get, look at last years cost, then phone to say "why are you (again) much more expensive than last year??". Answer tends to be "Oh, you have not been given all the discounts you're entitled to" and the price drops to last year's figure!
FWIW I get roadside, home start, complimentary relay for wife and I for u-just under £100pa.- and upgraded to "Gold membership" FOC this year, although the only benefit I can see from that is free insurance tag on one set of car keys (useful when you have 2 cars both with 2 sets of keys!).0 -
Might be worth checking on your car manufacturer's website if they have their own "owners club" (I'm not talking about enthusiast clubs to be found on the net)
For instance Club Toyota is currently I think £64 annual membership and includes AA cover (home start, nationwide recovery, onward travel and European assistance) as well as discounts on some other stuff. Could well work out cheaper for some people. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Yeah, AA suck. Been with them 7 years (a gold member...no Bond pun intended) and they offered me renewal of £183, i haggled, they offered me £129, then i said RAC was offering same product for £95, and now i'm with RAC.
I've been wasting so much money on AA! Damn!0
