Postage undercharged. Would you?

I would take it up with them over the pen marks on the item.
They would not get 5*s and they would probably get a low and/or a non-positive for the combined issues, the colour dependent on how they handled the refusal and the statement that they shouldn't have sent out marked items. I'd also wonder about the dispatch star - I bust a gut to get things out ASAP. I may not mark that a low but there's a good chance they wouldn't get a 5.
It really isn't on. These people don't realise how much their actions rebound on ordinary eBay sellers and put buyers off."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

They are two separate issues.
Firstly, you do not have to pay any more postage than you already have. Its the sellers mix up and you are not responsible for making it 'right' for them.
As for the items that arrived grubby and dirty. If you decide to keep them then you can make your feelings known about the items through feedback and stars.
But, you are also within your rights to ask for a refund and they will have to give you it....including the original postage you paid.
But do not combine the two issues by saying something like "Im not giving you the extra postage because the items were grubby". It complicates matters and you dont need to do that to be in the right.0 -

Agreed. A long time ago I sold a few pairs of heavy swear trainers (if you know swear, you'll know how heavy they were lol), checked p+p on royal mail website but didnt notice the disclaimer saying I couldnt send by 2nd class if over a certain weight (which they were). Anyway, I ended up making about 5p per pair after taking off the extra I had to pay, but I still send them, and it didnt even cross my mind to ask for extra. Anyone asking for extra to cover their mistake is cheeky at best. Anyone asking for extra to cover their mistake after sending damaged goods is totally out of order IMO, but yes keep the issues separate when dealing with the seller.0 -

But the OP wouldn't have known the item was going to be grubby so how could they underpay postage because of that? It must be the seller who undercharged for postage.0 -

NO. We chose 1st class delivery instead of parcel post and did not notice the price at the time. £5 parcel post or £1 1st class.
Surely it is not down to you to decide what to pay. If you have an issue with the item then you go through the proper channels with a dispute. You don't just pay what you like.
We chose an alternative service they offered not our own price.
As above we didnt notice until the seller contacted us.
Sure they have no basis to ask for more money if they screwed up on postage but by underpaying what you should have done you're risking having any comeback anyway.
So i didnt underpay. They messed up. By having 1st class for less money.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I get this now, your post didn't explain properly (well to me anyway)
