Just phoned, just wanted to cancel the phone service at first, then they dropped the price to £20.90 - cheaper again, thought why not, not going to use the phone but it's cheaper.

Didn't query the 30Mb as I'm happy with the 10Mb I watch TV online and had no problems.

Yes correct - I have read that mentioned in the past however too lazy to type it that way, I'd imagine most people (you included) figure what we mean when talking in relation to providers speeds.
Sorry but that is so irresponsible. Non techie people come on here for advice, and simply saying 'most of you know' won't stop someone possibly ending up with a bill for 8x the allowance they thought they had used, along with punitive rates for each extra GB of £10 or maybe even £20. One of the purposes of this site is to bring to people's attention sly practices and I believe the ISPs are quoting speeds in Mbs and allowances in MBs to fool people that their speeds are much faster than they really are.
unfortunately schools teach kids to think in terms of centimetres. As a result I've seen a huge number of things made ten times larger than needed - causing many problems .
This is really no excuse. Every schoolkid knows there are 10 mm in a cm and that there are about 300 of them in a foot; it's engraved on their rulers for Heaven's sake!

Dont bother calling them. I am 'someone techie' who worked for another ISP. To prove that you are getting 30 MB, they will get you to connect up one PC via ethernet then put your PC into Safe Mode thgen get you to go to a special webpage they have set up and ask you to diwnload a couple of the files. They will then look at the bit rate transfer rate and magically tell you that this shows you are getting the correct speed....assuming of course you always use your PC in Safe Mode and only use it to download their files:mad:

I did similar thing. I'm on cable L10 currently, to be doubled at some point in the future. I no longer had minimum term contract with VM.
I asked why new customers get 30Mb/s for the same price I pay for 10Mb/s? They dropped my price to £18.50. I didn't say no to that :)

EDIT: I've got Netgear VMDG280 router so I'm not sure whether it's capable of running at 30Mb/s speeds. They were not keen on giving me 30Mb/s, but happy to reduce price at my current speed.

I doubt it, I pay £35 for 50 meg, Same as the 100meg price. No doubled speeds in L4 yet.

As a techie would you be telling people that they get a 30 MB download rate?

I'm sure that call centre script monkeys consider themselves 'techies':)
