VJsmumPut your Raspberry & Blackberry canes in water for 3/4 days before you plant them - they'll get started a bit quicker. Also Raspberries don't need to be in direct sunlight to ripen - very useful if you have limited space. Mine are in a bed against a north facing fence & I was picking last year well into October. They are one of my favourite fruits - so easy to grow, pick & freeze (that's if I havn't eaten them all on the way back to the house - yum)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Hi all - have just been reading through the last 10 or so pages. Seriously want some of those turkish knickers, but I'm not sure OH would be too impressed. I'll add them to the list of things I want when I'm over 70 and will settle for waiting another 35ish years!

I'm quite new to these boards, but have been looking for somewhere friendly to post on those days when everything is just too much, hoping I'll be able to fit in here a bit, you all seem lovely! I'm currently spending every second of the day fretting about something, been underpaid this month by £300 and so am very short, also work are changing things in the near future - might lead to my pay always being this low, so I can't stop thinking about it. This is causing lack of sleep, which is obviously making the whole thing worse. I'm a care worker, so every day at work is a hard (but rewarding) one, and there's no time for an off day, so poor old OH has to deal with me coming home and sobbing at him 2-3 times a week atm. Anyway, that's enough of that, just thought I'd give a bit of a background to why I'm looking for friendship and support I guess... Not sure if that was the right thing to do, and actually feeling very shy and worried about pressing send now (if you're reading this, I've been brave!).

I'm actually off out for the next 4 hours, so am going to attempt to actually send this into the ether, and look forward to dropping by again when I'm back. Time to shoot some rubber animals in the wood (I'm a field archer, it's not as weird as it sounds!)

Morning all :) Having friends over today who are visiting for the day. They suggested going out for a late lunch. We've agreed as its nice to do, but how do you guys manage with this?

We can't really afford it but don't want to be miserable and say no?

We're currently looking at cheaper restaurant options, lol.

This is always our weak point as all our friends are very well off / live at home so they suggest meals out, day trips, takeaways. Any ideas how to cope with this kind of thing?

    Welcome Bexim :)
  • Hello BEXIM welcome to the thread, we're all a little crazy in our own ways, but it's a lot of fun in here and always supportive and friendly. It's always lovely to have new friends to chat with.

PEANUT see if you can find a coupon deal for somewhere that does 2 meals for the price of one and go halves on what you have to pay for that will cut costs dramatically. The only other option would be to suggest a walk somewhere pretty and a winter picnic but that depends on whether you and your friends would enjoy something like that. Hope thats useful, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Got my feedback as to why I wasn't short listed for nursing.

My reference wasn't satisfactory and had to be from acedemic above GCSE level or current employer. I was up the creek here really. School wouldn't/ignored requests and my ex teacher was GCSE level.

Also though, my OU psych units weren't enough either.

At least I know it wasn't my personal statement.

Fuddle, it's a sign of the times. Nursing courses are getting harder and harder to get into around the world.

I wanted to train in '96, even got a place in the RN programme but no child care (and face it you really can't leave a two year old to his own devices).

I started applying again in 99/2000. I got turned down for the RN course and accepted for teaching! Thought really hard and gave up the seat. Applied to a practical nursing course (your old SEN course) and was accepted.

The RN degree course has gotten more competative yearly. My son's friend applied for three years at the local unis. He was turned down because his science marks weren't in the high 80s! So he applied to my old training college and was waitlisted for six months before he started training. He finishes next summer.

What we've noticed is the new grads might be book smart but they have no people skills or desire to do the hard physical work nursing requires.

Nursing has shot it's self in the foot. The schools are picking the brightest not the best.

    Wave Hello to Bexim

The hug smiley looks a bit dodgy so thought it better not to scare you ;)

Hope things get sorted out for you but not good you are in tears several times a week because of job.

Just made an order to AF and they don't have the flour I was looking for but got some great bargains especially facial cleanser and scrubs that are a quarter of the price, onion bhaji mixes, stock cubes and tubes, marinades, spices and cereal bars.

Going to dish up dinner so see you later.

    Hug to all.
