Yes I would just substitute the proper ingredients of whatever box cake is specified. There just seems to be a lot more processed cooking in the US for some reason.
All the cakes are quite pudding-y so perhaps the condensation is why. I haven't personally made a cake yet, I should add, and am working on losing weight so not likely to for some time! I have made rice pudding, and that was fine.
PS There's no such thing as a silly question!0 -
SUNSHINE 4 Hi DENISE lovely to hear from you again, hope your SIL is well on the mend and hope we get some nice spring weather soon which will keep her that way. I love slow cooked brisket you can do so much with it and make so many yummy different things. It's nice to have a good reliable butcher in the area too. Let us know what you do with the meat, it's always good to crib alternative ideas from each other and have better variety of meals, looking forward to trying something new, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Is a "blade" of beef much the same as brisket? I have a feeling it might be. I'll confess, I was in the farm shop over a year ago and they have a freezer where they put the things that are not selling quickly enough (when fresh). With use by dates on. When they get near the date they are reduced. I couldn't resist, thinking I'm not sure what it is but have a feeling it will need long and slow cooking. I feel it is nearly time I used it and if it is almost brisket then I could try and slow cooker method mentioned today. Perhaps at Easter? Don't like to rush into things!!
Whilst here, I wish to register a complaint. What do Leedl think they are doing selling their chocolate for half price and putting the stand just inside the door? How am I expected to keep to my list when I get ambushed like that?!! As it is I think I am lucky that only six bars secreted themselves within my shopping. Just a shame it was after I had been attacked by a bag of large Cadbury buttons.
On another matter, whilst in that in-between state that happens when you are snug in bed but starting to feel you really should be thinking about getting up, I had a thought about Nursie. Can I suggest, Softstuff, that you try and persuade her to go and see 2Tonsils? I feel sure that she is the woman for the job to sort out Greece.

Hi RPP just looked it up and Blade Steak is the top part of the chuck steak which comes from the shoulder of the carcass. Brisket is the bottom of the belly of the carcass and comes from under the ends of the ribs. So basically the Blade is braising steak and you can use it in any recipe that needs long slow cooking and brisket is best either slow cooked for a long time or pot roasted, Hope that helps, Cheers Lyn x.0

Tears galore in this house this afternoon. DH broke the news that when he goes in to work on Monday they will be discussing pay cuts. It's happening, just a case of how much.
I literally feel like I've been spun round in a tumble dryer. One minute I know exactly where I'm going with my future, the next it's all up on the air.
I'm going to be spending Monday applying for jobs, any job.
Please can I swear?0 -
Go ahead and swear Fuddle. : (0

Oh Fuddle how annoying for you. Have you worked out the level of cut you can survive on?
Life just seems to be a constant case of fire fighting Doesn't it. I'd just like one month where no one is demanding money/taking money/ beggaring up my budget.
Give your DH a big hug, I bet he's feeling a bit down."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Oh Fuddle - Just read your post. I do sympathize. I read an earlier post of GQ's about her struggles, and one or two more saying that the prices of everything is making life difficult for them.
Life is very hard at the moment - VERY but we have to keep going and make the best of a bad job. Believe me I speak from experience. Never much money around and when it got a bit better something or someboddy would pull the rug from under my feet(give me a pencil and paper and I'll write you a book!)
I've taken any old job oftain two or three at a time when things got to boiling point but guess what ? I've survived and what's more thrived.
Your main blessing is that you've got a good husband (my first
was a s-d) Pull together like mad and work all hours God sends if necessary and you'll get through. Good luck. jacxx0 -
Fuddle try and not worry until you know what you're dealing with. I've been worrying about having less and less money and more and more bills so I worked out how much I needed to just survive - no treats, no internet, cooking/baking from scratch - a real basic life, and I know that anything above that and I have wiggle room. I also worked out that if I work a few more hours to get a bit more money I have less time to save - so for me first priority is to save what I have and make the best use of what I have coming in, second is to earn a bit more if I need to.
It's a bit scarey to consider but I feel more in control.0 -
We'll keep afloat no matter what. Like I always say, as long as we can pay the rent, council tax, utilities then we're alright. I'm sure it will be fine. I think all it will do is cancel out the savings we made by moving. The worry is the second car upkeep but we have a reserve so no need to panic.
Laugh in the face of adversity. There's a whole load of people in a much worse position than us.
I'm alright, think it will be fine just so bliddy peeved!0
