Faggots are very old fashioned and made from pork, liver, onions, sometimes bacon, breadcrumbs suet and herbs, then made into big tennis ball sized portions and wrapped in caul fat which makes them look covered in lace and baked in the oven. Also known as Savoury Ducks in some places. Very savoury and very filling also very nice!
It's lovely stuff that sausagemeat WCS the butchery make thier own and it comes in lots of flavours, best bit is it isn't all pasty and squishy but still looks like minced meat. The only downside is that you drive past the pigs and arks in the field to get to the butchery which makes you feel a bit guilty when you drive back out with bits of pinky and perky in your shopping bag!!!!! You shouldn't feel bad Mrs L, it it weren't for you buying they may not have a lovely open-air life such as they have!
We kept pigs for meat on the island - the last pair were called Hamlet and Omelette!!! (the pair prior to them porkpie and sausage roll)
Mar in Yorkshire we called them savoury ducks - they aren't that dis-similar to haggis really - same kind of idea.0 -
