  • Yes you can if you have a grater, it's easier if you have slightly stale bread but do-able with fresh but takes longer as it makes lumps rather than crumbs!!! you just have to keep going until it is crumby enough for what you want to use it for - does that make sense? I know what I mean, I just hope you do, Cheers Lyn xxx.

One kid in bed, one to go. Lovely and quiet here just the sound of one cat snoring, the other having a good ole wash.

Despite all the pancake talk, me nodding along as I read, I forgot we didn't have pancakes last night. Kids are mad for them, well we all are and I've been making them the last couple of Sats anyway so maybe we will just have to have them again this Sat. What a nuisance eh? :rotfl: Current favs are banana pancakes but would like to try some savoury pancakes for a change.

I am planning to do lots of cleaning, decluttering and sorting over the weekend so that over half term, I can spend time with the kids and experiment a bit in the kitchen. I am getting a bit bored too of cooking and baking the same things.

Starting to feel a little guilty I am not prepping for tomorrow but really my brain is too tired now so will just chill. To me tiredness overrides everything.

edit to add: mcculloch glad you are feeling better

Yip, I'm with you :) I'm visualising fresh bread rolling up as opposed to flaking.

Fancy a Irish stew until I read I would need 900g of stewing lamb. Think that would be expensive.
  • SQ you can only do so much in any given day!!!! Be kind to you and don't feel guilty about anything, tomorrow will take care of itself, just have a little relaxez vous this evening, set you up for tomorrow it will , take care of yourself, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • FUDDLE that's an awful lot of lamb, the recipe must be for giants, I'd use half that amount and I'm sure it will still be delicious, must admit it is one of my favourite things, dribbling just thinking Irish Stew, Cheers Lyn xxx.

thanks Mrs LW - you always know what to say! You're right, I will carry on chilling and have an early night. If I could pick a "mother figure" (hope that makes sense), it would be someone like you.

    sq :)
  • Thank you, that's lovely Cheers Lyn xxx.

Fuddle these days I cut the meat up a bit smaller and we have less of it in a stew. Lamb is v expensive these days though, definitely wait until there is a half price offer on somewhere.
Having a great 'using things up' week, but was wondering why we weren't actually getting through much food and realised it's because I will have done 3 fasts this week. Definitely the cheapest diet, just not eating!

    Evening all

unixgirl - well done, you, what super news! :j

Food prices in Yorkshire are going ever upward - news says by 2-4% or so, bet they don't shop round here. My instant coffee (standard brand) has gone up by nearly 30%, the own brand cereals up by 8%, even breadsticks up by over 20%, not to mention more basic foods, all since about October-end last year. :( We'll be eating more non-meat protein-based meals, too, my mum used to do loads of things like that when we were kids in the early 70s. When I was newly married in the late 80s with no cash, we ate the same way, with the addition of dried soya, bit yuck by itself, but hid well in sauces and full of protein! I've got loads of dried pulses and nuts to use, so am also going to look for nut roast recipes and similar.

I made some lemon Scotch pancakes last night for dessert - even DH loved them! Going to made a huge load this weekend, plain and flavoured, and freeze for breakfasts and quick puds.

We have no alcohol in the house, so have cobbled together a drink of hot spiced apple juice with a healthy slug of home made bramble vodka - would it sound like the teensiest bit boastful to say how fantastic it is? Or am I a lush who's easily pleased? :rotfl::beer:

Fuddle, depending on what you want the breadcrumbs for, you may not need to 'crumb' them very fine. If there is any moisture in what you are adding them to you can probably just squish them with the moisture until any lumps disappear
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
