I am eating more and the extra food I think helps keep me warm.
I am sure the Hairy Bikers could do a series that would help more of the population to eat well for less and still be enjoyable and they are playing too much on the gourmet theme...
I have no access to an Asian Supermarket, the nearest thai shop is a bus ride away and takes nearly 40 minutes...and its not that size.
And their Sunday roast meal was nearly £5 per head...so for a family of four as they suggested that was £20.
And they purchased three boxes of fancy prawns for around £20.
Nigel Slater is about the most economical cook on tv at present often adapting or using up leftovers...
I hope the series improves as it goes on...
We are eating well too, but we still need heat on............We just got £25 CWP ,you should also have received that one off payment so you can put extra heat on when its cold........Its what its for..........I put the £25 CWP in my coal tin, ready for when I order the next load of coal............It is such a good help.....
Ive got a neighbour in similar situation to you , she 86 years old, got a good GCH system, BUT never uses it, she sit in one chair all day with a blanket on, holes in her socks, gets £300 heating allowance per year , she and her husband worked all their lives , good pensions , bungalow paid cash for 52 years ago, no children and too dam tight to turn the heating on...:mad:, what do the disabled get , jack !!!!! , they should work the heating allowance out on savings and income, that would be a fairer way of doing it.......
Very windy but sunny here today.........We are living off the freezer this week because I have the dreaded MOT in 2 weeks time, so if I can hold on to £25 this week and the same next at least the actual test will be paid for, hoping it will go through okay.............
So tonight for tea we have jacket tater and bakes beans with some bread and butter, its very cheap and cheerful, but it is quite nutritional, havent got anything to make for desert , unless we have some custard on itws own, oh desicions ,desicions.....Sheila0 -
Does anyone else get narked at people parking right outside their house. I have my car in but don't know where DH is going to park if it's not gone in 45 minutes time.
Lyn it all seems to be falling beautifully into place. Now I should be so happy at this prospect but instead I'm waiting for that spanner to be chucked in the works.
My 60+ friend from where I lived has picked me up today and shown me around town. (she's originally from here) She's shown me the walking route so next week I shall get wrapped up and go shop in Wilko's, poundshop, Aldi when I find it and - get this, there's charity shopsI still haven't found Aldi but I will not be beaten. Boadicea the trolley shall be accompanying. You may ask why don't I drive? Simple answer: I'm too scared as haven't really sussed the car parks or roads over there yet.
She had a gift voucher for WHsmiths so treat herself to the 5:2 intermittent fasting book but Michael Mosely. She lost 8lb last year and is a fan. When she was there she saw it was buy 1 get one for £1 so she bought me one toobest thing is the book was only £3.99 when we got to the till so she still had £5 to spend on herself.
DH has got the crate from DogsTrust. They suggested to find a part of the moors (we have nature reserve and waste ground out the back - moors she says! lol) that were isolated and let him off the lead to burn steam. They think because his walks are on the leader he isn't burning anywhere near enough. I am reluctant as I'm scared he'd run off but I bought some hot dogs, chopped 'em up and took him out this afternoon. He flew all over the place. I had no idea he could run so fast! I trained him with 'here' in my best farmers voice and low and behold he would come racing back for his bit of sausage. Really nice to see and actually he always knows where I am which is a shock, I thought he'd be off. I don't think he would run away... but I don't have 100% trust in him that he won't case something and forget where I am!
Shelia it is so cold with that wind. I am unbelievably ready for spring now. I am prepared to wring every bit of enjoyment out of the few nice spring days we have because I doubt we'll get a summer again.0 -
I don't understand why you wouldn't want to heat your home and live comfortably considering you have an inheritence to use for that purpose."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

According to the room thermometer at the doctors' surgery this morning, a room temperature of less than 65 degrees means you are at risk of hypothermia. It is also much more pleasant to live in a house that is warm, rather than spending hours in bed or layered in masses of clothes.
Fuddle Good luck if you try the 5:2 programme. I did it for a few months last year and lost 22lbs, then stopped for Christmas (and because it was so cold). Back on it again this week, so am hoping for more flesh to vanish. Oh, and the book was only £2.95 in T£sco at the weekend!

Same here re heating. It costs us a fortune in coal but that fire stays on 24/7 and is not going off until June at the earliest!0

Tina, my hubby has a police record for TWOCing, in fact when his CRB came through it was THREE pages long, it was many years ago when he was a stupid kid. He's a lovely chap, but was a bit of a Richard when he was younger.

Finally got rid of my pressure headache last night, I was putting it down to my sinuses but they seem to be clear now lol. Slept well but woke at 4am to hear the ceiling and doors creaking in the house. I put it down to a wind blowing and went back to sleep. It seems we had our first earth tremor at that time.....we have had four more since. Had one while we were in town shopping and it sounded and felt like a load of heavy planes taking off at once. MY friends say it really shook their houses hard in the north of the island.
Went shopping today, as the farmers/drivers/seamen are all on strike for three days and it will affect deliveries to the supermarkets. Made a lovely chicken and veg soup for lunch then used some reduced pork to make a casserole with garlic, cream and oyster mushrooms. Had green beans with it as I didn't want any potatoes with it.
Had a lovely day, sunny and 18 in the sun, 11 in the shade but it has gone really cold now the sun has gone down. Have the log fire burning bright and its lovely and cosy in here with the curtains closed. Have our wood delivery tomorrow and a friend has offered to help me get it in and stack it, which will save my OH's bad back this time.
Asked my new boss to explain exactly what my job entails as I was getting more and more complex tasks to do for the same money...hence I now have clear instructions on what to do when and I am renegotiating my wages and commission upwards......well pleased about that! I may well end up with a much better job for more hours in the summer months as well.
Just watching a news reporter outside parliament on Sky..he looks absolutely frozen poor man...wish they would take him in and give him a brandy!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. I'm probably going to regret posting this but i'm really sick of reading about someone who won't take steps to help themselves (voluntary work etc), who won't consider moving to cut expenses, who won't use the money they get for what it's intended for (curtains - really? instead of heating?)
I know a lot of people, those I work with, who would give their eye teeth to be in the same position, to be able to go to music clubs and shows, even free ones, to be able to shop around and make food choices that are healthy, to be able to consider and turn down voluntary work/job clubs etc because the benefits agencies aren't chasing them to improve their lot, even when they are severely affected by disability,to be able to forward plan knowing a small inheritance is coming their way, however sad the circumstances.
Some people should be ashamed of themselves!0 -

I am doing as you suggest, that CWP will make a difference and it is not due to being tight in my case, more waiting to see what the situation is as decisions are being made...then I'll have a better idea. And I don't have a pension nor own my home. So there are some differences...
My utility bills are going up at the end of March even though I thought my prices were frozen until the end of October.
And as you said there is much in the media about the CT/BT and how it will affect many and there will be more to find weekly and could be less income coming in...Many unknowns...I don't understand why you wouldn't want to heat your home and live comfortably considering you have an inheritence to use for that purpose.
It will be used but even being careful and at the same time trying to be comfortable, the CAB/HA say it won't last long at all...
I am feeling more positive though and can see hopefully more good things. Good to see the dog training going so well...
Even if you could drive to the shops, if the walk is easy and safe, that will be nice to do especially in the spring/summer. It may help exercise wise.
Michael Moseley was on Sarah Millican's show on Tuesday night and though she was making jokes about the 5:2 diet he did say he is better for it and in his case it was not so much for losing weight that he did it, more to improve the health of his body and that was the main message of the documentary he did and it is really easy to do and once into it, you do not feel hungry.
