Thanks everyone for correcting my wrong information in my post. I am so out of date?:(
It does feel as though we are going to need eyes in the backs of our heads, just to keep up with all these changes. Thankfully even though I was wrong today some of you were on the ball, it seems a collective brain is far better than a single one. :TGive us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
I should be retiring this summer but don't intend to, I worked from age 15 to 25, was a sahm for 10 years, then self employed from age 35 to 50, back into employment from age 50 'til now age 61. I discovered a few years ago that the ex had lied about paying my NI contributions so I am due about £87pcm pension, looks like I'm up !!!! creek without a paddle, hey ho, I'll work til I drop then.
The good news is that the ex has lots of foreign holidays & lots of money to spend, lol.

Currently treating myself to a rather large glass of vino as I have finally managed to finish DS's DLA form. Must have toughened up since doing DD's last year as I managed it with no tears and no tissues! (just about! by dint of stopping at moments when I felt it was all getting a bit much and leaving it to later) Just need to harass up a couple of reports and it's all ready to go.
On a much lovlier note, the Head from school rang this morning to say he'd got the copy of DD's statutory assessment request and parent report I sent him and that he thought it was an excellent report and how lovely DD sounded and how much they are looking forward to her joining school! He also had a couple of updates of plans being put in place already for DD and things happening in school that he felt she would particularly benefit from or enjoy! We are so lucky in the nursery and school that we have picked.0 -
hester - and therein lies another issue, what happens to the woman whose husband leaves her at 55, when she thought his pension would cover them both?
Its so wrong0 -

Its so wrongWhat happens is that she gets an a$$-kickin' divorce solicitor like my pal and goes after a share of the pension. ALWAYS go for a share of the pension, we told lady clients back when I worked for the CAB.
HH, your ex sounds like a prince among men. Hopefully he'll contract some deeply unpleasant but non-terminal illness whilst on one of his many jaunts. Perhaps you could anonymously arrange for him to be sent brochures for these norovirus cruises which are so popular lately. I hear it's a delightful way to spend 48 hours...........:rotfl:Love your avvie, btw.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks all for the knee support (pardon the pun). I just don't want to be told I can't jog, because my opportunities for decent cardio are pretty limited. Was planning to try to learn to cycle, but after hubby got his new bike we tried to drop the seat on his and even at its lowest I can't get on! It wasn't a great plan all told because at present with 2 bikes in the unit, one is in the centre of the room! Needless to say we can't have exercise equipment in here and to do an aerobics DVD I have to move the coffee table into the kitchen side of the room and tread as softly as I can so as not to disturb the neighbours :rotfl:.
I'm glad you're enjoying my mincemeat drops Grandma247. I confess I didn't make any this year, since I hadn't made my own mincemeat. Though we did have a surplus of marzipan, so had rather a lot of the marzipan drops.
I've been trying to thank people, but am still saying they're spamming, so gave up half way, sorry! I also dropped a weetabix while making breakfast, boy can those things travel when they shatter. I had a crunchy floor. Elizabunny, I told hubby about your toast, bread and sieve incidents, to make me look more normal, since I've been dropping things for 3 days now.
It's all "superannuation" over here pension wise, so that's something we'll focus on a bit more when the mortgage is done. Hubbys employer pays into his, but as I'm not employed there's very little sitting in mine at present. The amounts we'll need in there to have a frugal retirement boggle the mind frankly. I am not entitled to anything from England despite having worked and paid for a number of years. The department for pensions contacted me on emigrating and suggested I could pay in whilst I was here and then would be entitled, but I figured I'd be lucky to live to what is likely to be state pension age by that point, so I'd be better off sticking with superannuation here.
Sorry you're suffering SDG, hope you're feeling perkier soon. And Kidcat, frankly I think you could use a few hours off, so maybe that tablet wasn't such a bad thing.

I'm going to be the same, although I've not dared crunch the numbers. Worked from 16-27 then was at home from about 20 years! Seriously one of the reasons I opted for doing B&B was that I figured all the time I could make a bed and cook breakfast that I could earn some kind of income!

i am absolutely completely ignoring the pension issue. it's so long until i'll be retiring that it's unlikely to be anything.
thanks for all your comments about work. i feel like i must have that syndrome that kidnap victims have when they grow to love their kidnapper. i dont like my manager very much but i often feel obliged to defend her! she does have some good points, but her bluntness and lack of people skills are not amongst them.
the other job has not been posted up yet, but have subscribed to email alerts so if a suitable post does come up i'll know straight away.
Byatt, love the new pusscat, he looks lovely.
got a lovely looking veg soup in the slowcooker for the girls dinner tomorrow. used some of the veg and potato water from teatime, some soup mix, sweet potato, potato, carrot and onion.
there'll be enough for DH and I for tea tomorrow night too
Really pleased that DH found all my seeds that i thought he had lost/binned. lots of heritage varieties that i've saved seed from. and got permission to put the greenhouse up at the lotty. really looking forward to getting stuck in this year.
love to all xxx
(pops, i was thinking of you earlier as i sat darning my favourite thermal socks)
