We have iPads/phones but they were all saved for. We don't have holidays, we have a flat screen tv that's around 6 years old now, rarely watched but it replaced one that was beyond repair. We upgrade when we can but not until every other option has been investigated. Eldest DD is doing a very digital art based course and would appreciate a mac but we can't afford or justify one so she uses what she has to at college and works around it at home. Her camera cost a silly amount of money, most of which shed saved for (birthday/Christmas money provided the rest) and she's currently saving for a lens that's £1000. Most 17 year olds want to spend their money on clothes/going out but she's working hard and saving hard.

There's no problem with having the latest "thing" if it's going to be well used, looked after and appreciated and it's fully paid for by saving up.

I tell you what I do need... The Internet! Lol seriously, I think as lok as I could access the Internet I wouldn't need anything, I certainly don't need an iPhone anymore but I've got it till it conks out now. Ill be joining the basic handsets when it go's.

At one Timothy it mattered but now I don't care what anyone thinks. Hope I wasn't too harsh in putting my perspective forward. I get defensive because sis and mother used to ask whether the couch or TV were actually paid for or free because of the you know what. It hurts you know. Our debts were hardly about buying ourself stuff on tick it was more about having to borrow money for basics because we used to spend our money of the stuff. I guess it's the same thing. The six months before went under I was withdrawing money off the credit card to pay the childminder.

I've changed a little bit in 3 years huh?! Thank the dear clouds I have! Hope you don't honk a haired of me for sharing that bit. I don't really like talking about the ins and outs of my failings... Darn you Tia Maria! G'night x

We still have a CRT tv (which Dr Dragon paid hard earned and saved cash for!), we figure until it goes to electrical heaven there is no point in replacing it! My mobile is a very simple one (texts and calls ... end of story!), about the only "expensive" item is my computer (which Dr Dragon built) as it is my lifeline to the outside world.
Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup :D

At one Timothy?! Honk a haired?! LOL Fuddle your phone is hilarious!

PS. you might want to get it looked at, it seems to have a particular liking for the word 'honk' which is rather odd.

Don't think of it all as a failing. Think of it as a bad experience that you have learnt so much from. Lots of people go through life without it managing to teach them anything.

See, it's good to have stuff. Lol Apparently the iPhone auto correct is intelligent and the more the use it the more its gets to know its user and what to change the word to. I can say that since 2008 I have never used the word honk!

    Technology is pants eh? ;)

Oh Fuddle we could never 'honk a haired' of you! Sorry not extracting the urine really - I just love what your phone writes and it always makes me smile no matter how trying the day has been - I'm going to miss it when you get your proper internet back.

DS is continuing to do fantastically with his mobility and climbing and so consequently I have been a hair's breadth from a nervous breakdown for days now! If he's not trying to launch himself off the sofa he is eyeing the stairs speculatively (Thank god for stair gates is all I can say!)

Car proper poorly, needs its gearbox reconditioning and a new clutch  and will be out of action all week - thankfully lovely MIL has lent us their car which is much appreciated although like driving a small matchbox car after our big estate and the pushchair barely fits in the boot if it breathes in a lot. Will be glad to get Leon the Laguna back even if he has cost us an arm and a leg. Not got to pinch to much for it though as DH paid 4 weekly so has 13 pays a year and 1 always falls that we don't have to pay rent out of it - well that was this month so we were going to pay a chunk off the holiday and some off the CC (manageably small balance, don't worry) - always seems to be a big car bill when we have the extra money month - it's as if he knows!!!

Been doing more felting this evening which DH does his OU - he's just finishing off his last unit for this section so he can write his TMA almost 2 weeks early and have a proper relax when he is off week after next.

All the gadgets I have are cheaper versions of branded goods and what I have will have to last years. Many items are old/second or even third hand.

I forget who said they have a 32" FST TV but it was not as expensive as the old TV purchased almost 30 Years ago. That is not worth repairing and all TV's have changed shape and design now so you can't replace like for like.

So when first replaced someone might say "Look at his new TV" but within a short time it will start to age. I bet it doesn't last as long as the old TV's used to.

So many lovely people on here doing the right thing by their loved ones even though in many cases struggling themselves but that's what "We" do! I hope that our PM is not taking credit for this using his "Big Society" lable.

Tell that to those who are using Food Banks or will be...Annoying a picture was shown of Conservative MP visiting one and smiling at the camera in a newspaper, nothing to smile about that these are needed to keep people going in this century. There was nothing to suggest that he had donated anything.

And if food continues to increase in price, those who donate now may struggle to do so in the future, there have been a few stories in the papers today telling us to expect our food shopping to be affected for at least the next two years...and this is not on fancy food.

    I spent £13 in Aldi's...

    Tomatoes(six)but quite small
    Cucumber
    Celery
    Lettuce
    Milk
    Cheap loaf of bread
    Bread Buns(6)
    Cup a soup(4 sachets)
    Cheap packet of Jaffa Cakes
Mixed veg to dice for soups/stews
    Mushrooms
    A spread to butter bread.
I found a small ham joint.

Being single, I guess that I can eat smaller portions and stretch things out. Perhaps that seems an OK shop by todays standards. Still seems not that much to me.

    No fish, fruit or sweets.
