Hello everyone, just popping in but not a hope of catching up properly! I have been away at my sister's over Christmas. Was lovely. Pops I did think of you and said a little prayer to hope you were okay on this first Christmas without your lovely Mum.
Evening Everyone...
On a catch up run of posts, I'm sorry I have slept most of today away but hey nothing much happening, I must have needed the rest and it's not so nice weatherwise and as Fuddle said earlier it's dark by 4pm anyhow and within a few hours it's officially bedtime again anyhow.
But I must thank you for such kind thoughts Smiley and how you put it...Christmas went better than I could have hoped and my fears are more about what the future will bring(selfish?)but not really as there's only myself now.
Good or bad it will be interesting looking back at 2013 and seeing where we all will be individually and as a country with all the changes being promised and after the PM's New Year message...
I have been doing a fair bit of thinking of my friends on here too and sending positive vibes(prayers)and lighting a candle.
So thank you for anyone who thought of me...It's online and repeated again tonight(but I caught some of this at an early hour this morning)

Someone said something that is true...often after someone passes away, the next year you may find yourself measuring it by saying "Last December 25th we did this together etc..." and pick various events perhaps a meal out, going to the theatre etc...even time spent caring for someone but...then you enter a time where you cannot do that because that person did not see or experience that time with you so your point of reference changes.
Perhaps this is how we learn to never forget but find a way of peace and acceptance, a way to go on...I mean Mum was around last February for her birthday and passed away in April this year that won't be the case...
This is not meant to sound miserable or depressing. I'll stop now.
But thanks again...:)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

My phone is a menace smiley. It's the old, old iPhone 3GS I think and gets me in to trouble texting too. I fathomed out how to get the thing to speak to me when it auto corrects so at least I know it's changed a word but that doesn't stop the damn thing doing it! Does anyone know if you can change auto correct (and hugely irrelevant!) off? If so, how?
Yes, to all you ask but each make/model probably has its own way to solve the problem so you could try a few buttons and hope or perhaps when next passing a phone shop see if they can fix it...I assume the instructions have disappeared...perhaps they are online? Fuddle - I believe that you cannot turn auto correct off on the Iphone, however if you download a different keyboard app, you can turn auto correct off on that and use that instead of eh default keyboard. I dont know which Iphone app keyboards are the best but I assume like android apps that they are customer rated so it should be fairly easy to pick a decent one,.0 -
Thanks Ginnyknit and Kidcat. I've just made a large batch of bolognaise sauce so I will make sure that I use at least one batch for lasagne. One of my New Year's resolutions is to try at least one new recipe a week. Luckily OH is an omnivore and will eat pretty much anything: though there was an unfortunate incident with swede fritters - it's the only thing he's asked me *never* to make again
I can report that Nigel Slater's muscovado chocolate and banana cake is scrummy, especially when warmed in the microwave and served with vanilla ice cream!0 -
Re. bananas, probably too late now but I love bananas on the turn in bananas and custard, somehow that's just the right state for them to be in even though normally I don't like them once they've turned spotty.
The panto was great, and Brian Connelly was really funny. I'm never quite sure whether the odd moment they're collapsing in laughter because he's done something 'different' are planned or not, but hilarious none the less. We had Chinese out too, so are feeling well and truly treated (and full). Good job it doesn't happen very often, but it's worth it once a year.0 -
Fuddle- I think most people get post-Christmas blues of some sort. It's because we all run around like mad women beforehand trying to make the perfect Christmas, then it's all over in a couple of days and we're left with 'nothing to do'.
I am working on clearing out to make myself feel better and make some space in the cupboards. I've packed up 2 teasets which haven't seen the light of day for at least 3 years and they're going to the CS. I am such a hoarder! I hate throwing stuff out - it's the 'well I paid good money for it' syndromebut the house just isn't big enough for all of us, so it's time to think. I'm going on the theory that if I haven't used it in a while, I probably won't miss it. It'll work for most stuff but some things I could never part with.
Pops - I know what you mean about remembering what happened on certain days etc. My dear departed MIL left us a few years ago, and we still think of her at certain times, but as you say, we make new memories which obviously don't include her, so we have to move on. It doesn't mean you forget them, it's just that things change. You will get there, just keep on keeping on.2025 Fashion on the ration

Lets keep chickens" it's great and there is a lady who has a naughty car that keeps diverting and encouraging her to bring home new chickens... Yes big momma has 4 lemon milfleur sable poot bantams... she hillariously dosent think they are any different than her and has done a lovely job of raising them. I am looking forward to tasting their eggs.
I can't tell you how jealous I am of you having chooks, my one unfulfilled dream......sigh! I still live in hope.0 -

For anyone who is interested in running have you heard of the park run? My partner and eldest take part and they love it. They are free to join and run on a weekly basis by volunteers.I'm sure theys one where you are Fuddle.
I started to jog it before my knees caved in, was fun and people who joined in were really friendly.

I find i'm lost without technology, but i am getting back into crafting again. I was so exhausted i couldn't do anything.
Sorry haven't been on for a few days, my OH and children have been spoiling me for my birthday. I turned 30 and been to the pics to see the hobbit, was brilliant. Then we went to bamburgh castle, had a half price voucher and then seahouses for dinner. Finished off with a walk along the pier in the pitch black.Beautiful place to go and were on going back again.
Went to my mums for lunch, was really nice.
Right i'm off to watch supernatural, while the winds howling0 -
Thank you for your kind thoughts Mrs CD
As Bluebag says I'd love to have some chickens, if ever I win the lottery and can have a house where I want...who knows...I can dream.
Kezlou Belated birthday wishes...oh to be thirty again...:p
Think I have been to Seahouses many years ago but never bamburgh castle. Magnificent location though. Again, one day I may get to see some of the beautiful places that exist in our country."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Am just in from a dash to the vet, I went downstairs at 1am to discover our cat howling in pain unable to stand, managed to get him onto a blanket and then called the emergency vet with PDSA who told me to take him straight in.
He had massive heart failure and blood clots in his lungs, legs and all over, there was nothing they could do except put him to sleep. Icant describe how amazing they were, allowed me to stay and hold him while he slipped away.
Am devastated, I held him when he was minutes old, fed him when his mother couldnt be bothered, through night feeds and day times when she wandered off. I nursed him through being run over, and he was amazing, so placid and laid back, friendly to all and a source of incredible comfort both for me and the kids. DS14 will be devastated, his bond with this cat was so strong, in recent months it has been the only way to calm him when he has been in total meltdown or despair.
We are left with his brother and sister, the sister having been back with us for a year but still sworn enemies with her brothers. His brother however is showing signs of dementia and relied heavily on his brother for everything, he is wandering the house now crying like a baby looking for him.
I had hoped 2012 had done its worst and was done, it appears it had one last blow to deal me and it is like the final straw.0
