That doggie pic made me smile, Byatt .

Hope your birthday is full of good things Shegar,; that you are able to see light in amongst the dark and that the light wins.

You're the same vintage as me, it transpires, I hit that milestone in almost exactly six months time.

Some exciting news. Earlier this year when finances weren't so tight,(!) I leased a tiny share in a racehorse, Angrove Rumbaba. He ran three times in National Hunt flat races last season and fingers crossed, he runs on Saturday at Wetherby in a novice hurdle. 25 horses are declared which is too many, so there's a chance he may get balloted out and not run.

He's a very special horse, he's a skewbald, brown and white, beautifully marked. Skewbalds normally don't make it as racehorses, as the skewbald colouring is inherited through horses that aren't full thoroughbreds, as nearly all racehorses are.

He's going to be featured in a local TV programme, Inside Out, next Monday. There was a tiny clip at the end of last night's programme, showing one of his races earlier this year. Fortunately I wasn't filmed.

I have a wallpaper table! All I would need is a table cloth. Chairs? Thinking cap on for chairs? I know we could sit on the edge of the sofas... or we could go out for lunch. Anyone know how much it would likely to cost for a pub Christmas lunch? Extortion I bet.

Byatt Alf's recognises dogs on the TV. Clever things aren't they ;)

Andrea remind me on and i'll tune in, I get Inside Out here :) Gorgeous horse.

We have had our tree for years, its about eight inches high and already comes with decorations and parcels on it. It goes on the sideboard each year. I don't put up a lot of decorations...we have Christmas lights that are a long string of bunches of grapes which looks both Greek and Chrismassy at the same time lol. Not much else I put up, I do collect greenery though. I won't put up a Christmas wreath on the door, I think they are unlucky.

I put any Christmas cards we get up on the mantlepiece. The Greeks don't send them at all so all the ones we get are from the UK. I have one I put up each year which is a huge picture of Elvis that plays Christmas songs by him. I can't even remember where it came from in the beginning.

Have been invited to quite a few get togethers this year, more than normal. I am very surprised as I thought with the shortage of money no one would bother. So I will be making baked goodies to take with me as no one ever remembers the gluten intolerant people who might go. That way I can be sure of something I can eat and can share them with others in the same position. Almost all English style buffets here are all sandwiches, sausage rolls, buns and flavoured crisps...none of which I can safely eat. Last year I made a gluten free pizza, muffins and various cakes ...they all disappeared off the table first and the normal stuff was left behind till the end of the party when the stragglers arrived and polished it off.

Not sure about Christmas dinner yet....we usually have wild boar but they can't start hunting them till it snows and remains frosty on the mainland. We are still having an unusually warm spell so it could be a long wait for it to happen.

When I first came here I went to the butcher and asked him if he could get me a wild boar.....what I actually asked for in Greek was a big angry pig...he laughed for weeks and gave me a free duck for making his Christmas more tolerable by making him laugh.

    Great news Byatt!
Fuddle if you ask around friends you'll probably find someone has 4 folding chairs you can borrow. They're a useful thing to have (not that i have any!).

My Kenwood chef has just fallen off the worktop. I left the kitchen for a minute to put something away, it was nowhere near the edge but it must have jumped off. The stainless steel bowl is a bit misshapen but I haven't been brave enough to turn it on and see if it still works. This will be an expensive pizza if it doesn't. : (
    Honestly, how stupid.

The man over the road from me - elderly and very nosy!! - has all of his xmas lights over the front of his house switched on, even the tree up in the window. He puts it on the day after halloween every year. I wouldnt mind but the flashing lights are still going at 10pm.

Can someone point me in the direction of SDG's pulled pork recipe please?

And Happy Birthday Shegar - hope your day getting better by the minute!
  • BYATT - That is the best welcome news of the day, we're so pleased for you and Bess, have a nice cuppa now and enjoy her when you get her back.

FUDDLE - Fishing chairs? would your DH be able to borrow some from his fishing buddies? If you have a local recycling depot they sometimes save furniture and sell it on if it is taken to them, that would be the cheapest option other than freecycle, worth a look maybe? The best table cloth for a wallpaper table is a single flat sheet!!!!!

McCULLOCH - Oh my what an absolutely stunning creature he is, I think it's LURVE!!!!!! What a beauty!!!

Cheers Lyn xxx anna special gentle SSSLLLLLUURRRRRRPPPPPPP from Docky fur mine frend Bess xxxxxxx.
  • Fantastic SDG - thanks for that. I must get better at using the search thingy!
