Thanks for the advice Mrs Chip, i understand where your coming from.
But Lucy really is naughty, she's friendly to humans and loves attention. But at the same time she like her own space. She's allowed in all the rooms and is very dominant.
She was with us for a fair while before we got the second cat, he was just 5 weeks old when we got him. So Tom sees her as a mother figure. If she makes a noise he instantly backs down and moves away from her. He cleans her and gives Lucy his food if she wants it.
Our third cat Shadow we got last year is battered by Lucy.
The other two cats are fine, yes they fight, jump up on tops etc
But they don't do they business in the house. Its just Lucy, i even asked my friend who runs a cat rescue centre and even she said she's just naughty. I have spent a fortune on her, hence the cc bills paying for treatment. But nothing has helped.
My friends suggested caging her, she does this with cats and apparently it works. As the cats won't defecate where they beds are. But i would feel really bad if did that, i mean its like being in prison.
At least if i tell her off she still has the full run of the house.0 -
thanks for the article Mrs Chip, some of it does ring true.
A prime example is the fire, if you have on it she's there like a shot, any closer and she would be on fire !
When we get up on the morning she runs downstairs and sits in front of the fire, waiting for it to be switched on. She's so funny.
Sorry everyone for the tangent and going way off topic0 -
kezlou if she likes the heat - you can buy fairly cheap heat mats that would possibly keep her occupied. We have kitty wars still between our two, I try to let them settle it and let them find their own level and have the freedom to be apart if they wish.
We had a cat that was really pernickity about litter, she would use it if anyone else had used it, she drove OH up the wall with it all but at least we understood her reasoning.0 -
I love the sound of your piggy in the orchard receipe Mrs LW! I will definitely try it next time I have pork. I wished I hadn't logged off when I did so missed it yesterday. I like simple recipes that don't call for lots of expensive ingredients and more importantly that the kids will eat.
I have a couple of really easy pork recipes to share.
Pork with celery and apples (which is similar to Mrs LW's):
Core and thinly slice a couple of (unpeeled) red apples. Fry gently with a little oil for about 5 mins. Add a little sugar and fry for a couple of mins until browned. Put to one side.
Roll some pieces or slices of pork fillet in some dried sage or mixed herbs and brown for a couple of mins. Add 1 thinly sliced onions and 2 thinly sliced celery sticks plus 150ml of chicken or veg stock and 150ml of apple juice. Simmer for about 15 mins. Season with pepper if liked and add apples to the pan before serving.
I either do mash or rice and veg. Yesterday we had rice and brocolli and was very nice. Good way to use up past their best apples.
Sweet and sour pork (or chicken/turkey)
Drain juice from tin of pineapples0 -
oops accidently sent last post before finished.
Sweet and sour pork (or chicken/turkey)
Drain juice from tin of pineapple rings. Add 1 tbsp cornflour to juice and stir until smooth. Add 2 tbsp tom puree and 1 tbsp soy sauce and mix well .
Stir fry 300g lean pork pieces for 3-4 mins in wok or large frying pan. Add 1 red/yellow pepper cut into chunks, 3 sliced celery sticks and 1 thinly sliced onion to pan. Stir fry for few mins again then add pineapple pieces and 2 toms cut into wedges.
Add the cornflour concoction to pan and stir until thickened. Season with pepper and serve with rice.
Talking of food, must get started on dinner, having roast chicken, roast tatties, yorkies, green beans, carrots and peas. Try and get some muffins in whilst oven is still hot after.
Didn't get any gardening done today but have been researching a little and have DH on board with the idea. Been taking advantage of the sun and laundry nearly up to date. Had a good trip into town, DS9 needed new shoes as gone up half a size. Kids back to school tomorrow and I have a rare free day before courses etc start up so will get going with housework and organising tomorrow including stocktake food and meal plans.
take care everyone

Mmmmmm I'm a sucker for pork and apple recipes. SQ I shall write yours down to add to Lyn's recipe.
We never made it to the forest! Just down the road at the barrage was a free engineering event. Lots of bridge building activities for the girls to do while seeing our local seal hang around the barrage gates and watched our fire and rescue service perform a dummy river rescue. The barrage is beautiful and one day, when I've kicked the nerves, I'm going white water rafting down there. You mark my words
I'm now having an afternoon of just me. The girls are downstairs with DH making structures from marshmallows and dried spaghetti. I'm about to mix some aldi foundation with suncream and moisturiser to make my own BB cream.
I can't at all relate to cats. I can't read them or understand them. Definitely not on their wavelength and I think it's because of their intelligence. I feel intimidated by cats for unbeknown reasoning. Where as my dog is super easy to read. It's all in his eyes, tail action and body position. Can you 'read' cats?0 -
Ok toughies I need help, I am trying to get the trip away all sorted, have booked the accomodation and am looking at booking into Harry Potter world later today. But I have also promised the kids we will sightsee in London itself. Its been a million years since I last went to London and we were with an Uncle who lived there so it was all ok, this time I have no idea what it involves.
I am assuming that it is better to park the car at the nearest station to where we are staying and venture on the train? But from there what will we need? do we have to buy travel cards or is paying as we go better?
I think I will need to see a good touristy map as well to work out exactly what we want to do when we are there and work out how we accomplish that. I know DS15 wants to see the guards at the palace, DS9 wants to see the tower of london and big ben, DD7 wants to visit harrods!! And DD18 doesnt really care0 -
fuddle - I think you are either a cat person or not, I love cats and can read them easily but I also respect their space and independance. I am an animal person though, growing up a friend of the family had horses lots of them and his son brought home a race horse to recuperate, this horse hated people with a passion and they struggled with him. Not knowing this i wandered across and was sat chatting with him and petting him and he was all snuggly, the stable hands couldnt believe it
With cats I always think of the saying "many years ago cats were worshipped by the Egyptians as gods, cats have never forgotten this" and I think to a large extent thats true0 -
Kezlou, hope this doesn't offend and is seen as helpful.
That cat is costing you hundreds -thousands? - of pounds in cash with ruined furnishings and so much heartache.
A very good friend of mine had a dog who was en-route to wrecking his house as it was completely hyper. The dog was then kennelled outside and spent 14 happy years with lots of love and walks, and the house stayed intact.
If Lucy is pooing because she isn't happy, cageing or rehoming her won't make much difference to her overall happiness levels.
But it will to yours and the other cats.
If it's because she's an out and out b!tch of a cat, cageing or rehoming her will make an awful lot of difference to your happiness levels and that of your other cats.
She's ruled you all for too long from the sounds of it. I hope that doesn't sound harsh, but no animal life should be to the detriment of a human life.
People must come first when there is a conflict of true needs, always. All pet owners find we make sacrifices (looking at the damage my cockatiel Smudge caused by flying free) but there are limits. If Smudge had attacked and bitten anyone when he was out and about he'd have been caged with no free time out when people were present.
And yes, I am an animal lover, honest....Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I can talk to cats, and once or twice have received their thoughts straight into my mind. I know that sounds totally mad, but it happened and gave me a shock! I tend to like hunters more than cuddly fuzzy pets. Cats, hawks, owl, ferrets, lurchers. Dogs are nice but pests because they always want you to play or join in - cats/hawks/owls.etc don't care whether you do or you don't, and I like that independence.0
