I get you, princesstippytoes. Just like I hate that I shop in Primark but until there's more money coming into the house I cannot afford principles.
Good morning. Off out for a forest walk and picnic today. Another lovely day here, hope you all have a lovely Sunday.
Pork chops, yorkshires, side of veg and gravy for tea when we get in.
Oh, I wanted to ask. Nutritionally, wht would be better to use to bulk out meals, lentils or oats. I'm swayed to lentils but would oats be cheaper too?0 -
Morning Toughies, another lovely day here, sunny with blue skies and a breeze, it was hot enough in the night to have to open up the big window in the early hours too, could this be that mythical thing called 'Summer'?
MONNAGRAN thanks for being in our team!!! The woman is so difficult to deal with that no one will take an official post as a representative on the lotties with her, and she has shot herself firmly in her own foot this time as He Who Knows has always been the first one she phones when anything needs doing on the site and the first one to offer his time and help fixing things, or fences putting up, or going to see sheds that have been offered by people for the site. I know that her ego is bigger than her commonsense and he is NOT going to lift a finger for her ever again. My lovely older lady in the sheltered housing is having a field day telling the story to everyone she knows, so the story will be out on the rumour machine and will do this woman NO favours at all. Of course it won't dent her armour, she'll never think she is at fault and anything other than right, but it will make my ladies feel better, not very christian as an attitude, but she deserves all she gets.
FUDDLE I'd be fibbing if I said we lived a barter lifestyle, I don't think that is possible in this day and age, but we do swap things if we have an excess after we've used and preserved what we need, it just seems to work that way in fact a friend of ours swaps his excess veg for a meal in the local restaurant in the summer season, usually courgettes by the large bagful, which does them both a favour. I am getting a little payback for having sent our surplus rhubarb up to DD1 for the past few years, she has divided it between her friends and colleagues at work, and one of them is now going to ice a big fruit cake for me to have at DD2s wedding, and she's doing it for free to 'pay' for the fruit, what goes around comes around eh? Hope it's nice to be back home for you and the family after your lovely break away with your in laws, well done with the girls and the pyjamas it's a good start to learning about the real world. I think the childminding would be really 'right' for you, it would allow you to do the things in life that you want, and let you be home too and your own boss, which would be a much more comfortable existence for you than having to deal with horrible people like at the nursery. Like Monnagran says GO FOR IT and more strength to your arm my friend, it might just be where you wanted to be all along, so try it and see, yes? Cheers Lyn xxx.
Both, Oats and Lentils were both used extensively in the wartime cooking, they both add nutritionally to your diet, so use both or just the one you like best, they'll both do you good and keep the pennies down, Lyn x.0 -

Depending what I am making I use anything from a handful of oats and or lentils, onions, grated carrots. chopped tomatoes, diced mushroom. little bit of chopped celery or courgette - almost anything I have really. getting veg from A**i is so much cheaper I usually have a good selection in the fridge.
I have pastry in the fridge and might make a sausage wellington tonight with sausage meat squeezed out of skins and thinly sliced onion on top wrapped in puff pastry - it looks huge when finished.
Have bits and bobs of veg to put on home made pizza if family prefers that tonight and dead cheap to make and might make quiches tomorrow depending on the weather and what plans are.
Funny thing is that when I try really hard with cooking and follow recipes slavishly it never turns out great but when I am "playing" with using up veg and odds and ends and experimenting with things everyone seems to enjoy it."This site is addictive!"

A, study was conducted about five years ago which showed primark as being one, of the better companies who cared about working conditions. Just because some of the clothes are cheap doesnt mean they are a bad company.
Debenhams and most sports brand have an appalling record of low wages and work conditions.
well found out why the round lettuces Where all over the place, fat knacker i.e. tom cat has been digging them up. Woke up to scabby cat pooing in the front room, so I rubbed her nose in it and put her outside. Ds2 went mad with me saying I was cruel. But I'm sick, shes been doing this constantly for two weeks.
Oh is off at the 5k race, we were all supposed to go but ds1 is too ill.
Glad you enjoyed your holiday, enjoy your course on monday. I'm sure it will be good choice to make0 -
Kez
Rubbing her nose in it won't help, if she is pooing in the wrong place there is a reason - she is either feeling unwell or unsettled or threatened. Cats return to their latrines, so you need to remove all trace of any smell and if possible keep her out of the area for while. And of course, try to find out why she is doing it.
When we moved up permanently our cat took to pooing under a bed in the spare room - we did not know he was doing it until the smell got so strong we knew something was not right - I thought the smell was a dead rat in the loft as I had recently bated, imagine my horror when I tracked it down to under the bed - he'd been doing it for weeks! What was really odd was that he had still been filling up his litter tray - god knows where he managed to find the extra poo to fool us!
So cue a massive clear-out of the room, the beds and old carpet went, we just left boards and now use it as a store room, but he is no longer allowed in there in case he gets ideas...
ETA - he was obviously upset with the move, but anything can trigger it, maybe she feels threatened by your other cat?Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
I agree Mrs Chip - pooping in strange places is a sign that the animal is upset. My dog Poppy pooed under the table last night because someone was letting off fireworks and although I sat with her she was still very upset about it. Poppy hates doing it and always looks very sad when I come downstairs. I never tell her off about it although i understand your frustration. I always clean the area with biological washing liquid as this is very good for getting rid of the scent which the cat/ dog can smell.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I wish it was that simple Mrs Chip, she was the same in the other house. She really is just a very naughty cat, daft thing is she knows it wrong as runs away as soon as she done it.
In the last house for 9 years she destroyed everything with cat poo and wee. Even before we got the other cats she poo'd everywhere. Went to the vets they performed all kinds of tests and said maybe she just needs company, as she came from a home with a lot of cats.
So we got tom, she stopped for about a week, then when thought she could get away with it,so she did again:mad::mad:
The new house we thought we had cracked but oh no she thinks she can do it again. I'm just having not it. She's 10 years old and a complete pain in the backside. We've had to throw the rugs away as she's destroyed them. So now we have bare floor boards in the front room.
So i don't think the move has anything to do with it, as she seemed much happier here. All she's done is purr since we came, in other house all she did was cry. Maybe its because i haven't put the fire on in the front room :rotfl: What can say she likes the heat like me :rotfl:
molly the other cats are scared of her, she's the queen of the house. If one does something she like. Lucy chases them and beats the life out of them. She really is a b!tch.0 -
I am not convinced that paying more means something is more ethically produced unless it specifically states it is or it is well known to be an ethical product. Adid@s had a terrible reputation at one point. With the pyjamas you are paying for the brand and the licence - and who wants to put yet more money into Scowell's pockets? he has enough.
Early trip to Aldi for the camping stuff - bought a sleeping bag and 2 bed mats and £5 off thanks to the kind generosity of someone here who sent me a spare voucher (thanks again!). A bit worried about how I'm going to get all this stuff to Glastonbury - OH is blanching at the cost but all the equipment I've bought still works out less than a B&B, even if one had been available. And we will still have it all afterwards.
Slow cooked indian spiced lamb shanks for tea - i'd best put them on. THen a couple of hours of cleaning, tidying, laundry before taking DD to see the Great Gatsby.
Have a good day all0I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Kez, I know it is hard not to think it, but really cats are not just 'naughty', it's very easy for us to read their behaviour as such, but it's us that are getting it wrong. For some reason your cat feels the need to establish her territory and this the was she does it. Is she a very friendy cat to humans? Does she need to be around you? If so, being left on her own with other cats might be the trigger. It can be very hard to find out what a cat needs to help it settle down, sometimes a change of home is the only thing that works - we had to do this once when a young cat moved in with us, much to the disgust of our resident cat. We took the young one to live on the farm in Cornwall that we visit, where she lived for a very happy 19 years.
There is always a pecking order in any group of cats, they usually manage to sort it themselves, but when we bring cats together who have not grown up with each other it is more likely that there will be clashes because if there are two dominant cats they will never get on unless one learns to submit. We have seen this so many times with the farm cats, each time one dies a new one seems to turn up and the whole dynamic of the group changes.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Sorry to divert the thread off on a catty tangent, but I thought this article might help with understanding our furry friends - there is a lot more going on than we think!
