I know exactly how the OP feels, my Oh in the past was exactly the same. He did claim for JS tho. TBH if the OP is feeding him and providing the roof over his head, then thats probably why he isnt rushing to sort things out. Maybe tough love approach is needed.
Definatly agree with some of the postings of decreasing the spending, food can be bought cheaply. Going back to basic cooking will help instead of buying convenience foods.
Hope you get it sorted soon.BSC member 137

I appear to have completely messed this up, I chose a bad month for putting my shopping amount down (extra alcohol due to birthdays etc)
Looking on my spreadsheets my average amount on shopping is £98 a month
I'm really not normally this rubbish i promise, not really with it today! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Your latest spreadsheet has you at -£83 a month, and with the reduced grocery figure that would be nearer -£35. If your OH got himself in gear and claimed JSA and checked out anything else you can get then you would be fairly easily breaking even. Does he realise this? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I have taken pics of some things to seel on Ebay (Clothes i never wore, Remote control car etc) I am waiting for a free listing weekend to put them all on there
You get 100 listings per calendar month free if they start at 99p. You could always list the stuff that you don't want a big price for and see how you get on.
Also, there are plenty of survey sites out there you or your OH could do to get vouchers to help with shopping - valued opinions, my survey and swagbucks are 3 of my favourites. Check out the Up Your Income boards for more info if you need it.
Also, you might want to keep a spending diary to track all spending and see if there is the odd thing here or there that you could cut out - when I did this I found my magazine and coffee spending was more then I imagined!
Good luck!0 -
OP Your OH could be correct about not being entitled to JSA. He won't be entitled to income based because if you live together, you are expected to support him.
£100 per year seems low for car maintenance, I would have thought £30-50 per month was a more realistic long term average.
Also are you sure about your petrol figure - you say you live 40 miles from work- won't this cost a lot more than £100 per month?
Can you move to nearer your work - what are the rents like and job prospects for your OH?0 -
laura i could be wrong so please check
i think its free listing this weekend!
editing to add that as you have no children i would cancel christmas presents, your family would surely understand
use the vouchers throughout the next few months on food0
