On Monday I got a letter from Dyson about my washing machine.
"We had to cease production ...cost of manufacture .....of December 2012 we will no longer be able to supply spare parts .....We are working with our retail partner Comet ......£50 discount on washing machines over £450. This offer is valid until the end of October 2013 ..........sorry for any inconvenience".
This morning Comet were placed into administration.
Not my week is it.

It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.

Is it an old machine or are they stopping making washing machines full stop?0

I bought it in 2003. They say they stopped making it in 2005. Googling Dyson washing machines does not give much of a return although I am not sure if they have given up on washing machines. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0

If you google 'dyson washing machine spares' you'll find loads of sources so it doesn't look like a problem.0
-
There is more good news since it isn't broken at the moment. However if the spares are no longer available from Dyson then I suppose the spare parts suppliers will find it increasingly difficult. It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0

Maybe not, I found the parts for our last samsung were made by other companies so not genuine samsung parts. Same as you dont need genuine manufacturer car parts for your car and can use OEM parts instead.
Although to be fair, last time it broke it wasnt really economical to carry on changing a part here and there so we just bought a new one when the offers were on.
Its still in the garage and im thinking of breaking it up and putting the parts on ebay for spares.0 -
Hello I got this letter today too. I have a warranty on mine that I bought through dyson. Will they still have to repair it? It was expensive when I bought it so I don't want to buy a new machine yet.0

All it says in the letter is, "If someone does offer to service your Dyson washing machine after this date (December 2012), please be aware they won't be from Dyson or operating on our behalf".It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0

Did production stop because the weight used to balance the machines was too expensive to transport from the location they wanted to manufacture them in?
My machine was beyond repair when the bearings in the drum seized, probably due to infrequent use. Shame as they had one of the better after service plans.0 -
The letter just says, "due to the cost of manufacture".It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.0

TBH that is about right. Cease support for a product 7 years after last manufacturer tends to be the norm even in industryThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
