Cheap calls from Ireland to UK

Hi,
I'm new here so I hope this isn't in the wrong place.
I'm going to Ireland, Cork to be exact, for 3 months and I want to be able to make cheap phonecalls home to the UK to a landline.
I know there's a thread about cheap calls abroad but I'm not sure if Ireland counts as abroad, I know that must sound really stupid!
I'm currently with O2 and I know there's a bolt on for calling from Ireland but I think I'd prefer to get a Pay As You Go SIM so I can keep tabs on my spending.
Can anyone recommend anything?
Thank you lots in advance!

Yes, Eire is 'abroad'. As you'll find out quickly if you refer to it as part of the UK in a pub in Cork.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Meteor payg is pretty good value, and they have an international add on that's free that brings the cost of calls back to the UK down to about 9c/min. Depending on where in Cork you're going to be (County or the City) Meteor coverage isn't great, so they roam on Vodafone but only on 2g - bear in mind if you do a lot of phone surfing.0

Thanks for your responses, Meteor and 13434 sound good - I'll get researching! I don't normally take my phone when I go away but since it's for a few months I thought I should.0
