Well I've got half a zillion channels on Freeview and there's nothing to watch. I don't mind.

But Freeview is hopeless for kids and teenagers. The BBC has about 6 months of material, if shown 3 times a day, which they recycle endlessly, so by the time a kid gets to 13 they'll have seen every episode of everything 23 times. CITV is dire (to speak kindly) and there's nothing at all after 7 pm. Kids who've only got Freeview are going to be at a serious social disadvantage.

Get them some books, then they will have a serious intellectual advantage. Lets face it , the people they know at school most of them they will never see again post 16. I know I didnt.

No point worrying if people that dont matter, care if your kid saw the latest episode of some mindless crap on tv. Id worry more about the politically correct indoctrination they get at the public fool system.

We only have freeview and I don't think my kids are at a social disadvantage.
We can't afford Sky or cable TV but have a decent bradband connection which for us is far more important.
I don't understand people who are obsessed with watching TV and moan all the time that theres nothing on. Turn it off and read a book or go for a walk.

A couple of things if I may...

Aside from the dreadful use of English, are the posters suggesting that the Sky rep on that forum is able to ascertain who the account holder is and make wholesale changes to the account from just a username on an internet forum?
    L33t!

If it is an "official forum" provided by sky then I expect the answer is yes - as part of the signup for the forum your screen username will be linked to your real account name/holder.

I think it's legal, provided you don't wear a shell suit. Still best not to mention it, though.

When on this board, provided you are a respectable early retiree, I would recommend you concentrate on the important things like....
    • Defending the position of so-called 'boomers', and rubbing in the fact that we didn't 'have it good' - it's just that we wore hair shirts, deprived ourselves, and stashed it away for retirement.
    • Sneering at the bears at every opportunity.
    • Reminding the 'poor' of today that we had to live through 27% inflation, 15% mortgage interest rates, and never received 'benefits'.
    • Thundering about today's education standards and boast that in our day, we learnt complex and difficult concepts [such as knowing that 'Interest Only' means... er... 'Interest Only']
Many baby boomers aged over 65 with interest-only loans face losing their homes, reports Sarah Davidson

It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Many what does that mean especially when you consider the oldest boomers are 66.

Scare-mongering talk "Many.... face losing their homes."

    But...
In this situation equity release is becoming more attractive with interest rates as low as 5.65 per cent fixed for the loan's lifetime. "With no need to make a penny repayment and to take cash tax-free from your property this has to be an option worth considering for many," says Autumn Life's Mr Little.

All they have to do is rape their kids' inheritance with a lifetime mortgage.

This is absolutely not any form of mis-selling. This is pure ignorance, or deliberate mis-management by a handful of greedy 'boomers' all of whom have oodles of wealth. It's just that they have chosen to spend their cash wealth elsewhere rather than pay off the mortgage.

    Poor journalism.

All an over 65 has to do is convert the interest only mortgage to equity release and they do not have to worry about losing their home.

The one thing that should do is actually change the mindset from over commitment to the realisation they are going to lose it or most of it.

They will also be paying the "right" margin for the product.
