Oh noes. Sky are cutting me off! (is the stereotype true?)

Over on the Sky forums these chaps are running out of money:

http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Billing/don-t-get-paid-till-next-week/td-p/527276

Without wishing to seem rude, their general level of English usage, and the fact they have week to week cash flow problems which stops them even being able to pay a Sky subscription on time; does lend one to think that they can't actually afford to pay for a totally unnecessary luxury television service.

I would love to have Sky TV, but there is no way I can justify paying almost £300 a year for the basic package, even though I can afford it.

A lot of those posts are sent via iPhone as well!

I wonder how many people end up getting Wonga loans to cover things like this?

On a plus side, Sky's broadband and phone are excellent value, and if you go via a redemption site they are basically paying you to have broadband.

I can't see the point either.

Perhaps if you are mad into your sport perhaps, but like any luxury, only if you can really afford it.

I wonder why the show it as "posted from Apple i phone" and not just hand held device, portable or something similar?

Do you think they are one of the those people we hear about on here who can't afford to save for a house.
  • I can't believe how much money people spend on TV packages. Where do they find the time to watch all this telly?

This is another thing that stops me getting it. I'd feel duty bound to watch a lot of tv if I was paying that much for it.
  • We have a good package with Virgin but we work and have no problems paying for it. Some people are terrible with money, especially when they don't have it. There are genuine cases though, where people have lost jobs and have been tied into a contract that does not finish for 12 months etc.

The companies do not allow them to leave the contracts and so the late charges begin. Agreed though, some people's priorities are not quite correct.

Some people are living the stereotype: some Irish people are thick, some black people are lazy and some Scots are mean.

It doesn't make the stereotypes true any more than meeting a clever Irishman, a hard working black man or a generous Scottish person means that the stereotypes should be reversed. All stereotypes are wrong IME.

I wouldn't sign up to a fixed length contract unless I knew I already had the money to pay it completely.

Obviously this isn't possible for things like a mortgage (otherwise you wouldn't need the mortgage) but for something frivolous like subscription TV where you know a 12 month subscription is going to cost you £500 or whatever, there really is no excuse.

And if I didn't already have the £500 to completely cover the cost of the contract, I'd be questioning whether I could afford to sign up to the contract at all, or whether my money would be better used towards building up some savings.

That thread has to be a wind-up. The Sky forum people keep posting that you need to contact Sky directly yet the posters keep on posting "I dunt get payd"

There really should be a test before people are allowed to use the internet!
