but it tends to 'buffer' alot, whereas the radio doesn't.

Being listening to radio 5 commentaries for years on mine. Never been a problem. Explain further.

Not tried 5, but on BBC R Stoke, it cuts off at kick off time not sure when it comes back, never fancied waiting for 45 mins being told it won't work! ;)

    Thanks for replies so far.

I do have a smartphone and a tablet and I already listen on my laptop occasionally but I really want something I can use in the kitchen or by the bedside.

True, but SWMBO gets a bit narky when you arrive home with a few too many Dartmoor Legends on board, get confused, and use them the wrong way round.
    Move along, nothing to see.

    Here you are:

'Why can't I listen to Football Commentary on my local radio station?

For a number of high profile sporting events, such as the Premiership, the BBC only holds the rights to broadcast live commentary locally to the area covered by our radio transmitters. Our internet service is available across the UK and around the world and therefore we need to blank all output for which we do not hold international rights. We apologise for any inconvenience, but you can still listen to live commentary from your local station on your radio.'
