Have your say on Tax Credits

  • I may have a rant on this site. It might help them help someone in a similar situation. In the space of 6 months I received 28 incorrect awards notices (3with the same date but different awards). I appealed the overpayment, the amount of which varied with each notice, and on 6th October 2005 received a letter stating that the overpayment was their fault and was being written off. This letter also stated that I would be repaid the amount that I had already paid back. They then continued to collect the overpayment from my tax credits until my award ended in November 2006. Despite repeated phone calls I have never been repaid the amount that I have repaid and have now given up and abandoned any further attempt to reclaim it.

It won't be interest, but something has changed. Ask them what it is. They might have added an Overpayment from another year, or they might have made a change on your record - either way, you can ask them why there are different amounts on the demands.

    thanks GemA

but would they not of notified me of another overpayment for a different year

i am thinking is it worth the hassle of claiming tax credits,if the are going to send out overpayment charges each year

Hi, just wanted to give a bit of hope out here! I had an overpayment of £6000+ that I was expected to pay back, I appealed and had the amount reduced to £739.88! :j This all happend this year, with £5000 of the overpayment relating to 2003-2004. It only took about two months for the appeal to go through.

i had apparently had an overpayment from 2004/5 of £5000+. I appealed and appealed as i knew it was their error... Now i have received 15 sheets of A4 paper with dates running down the left hand side of each sheet front and back of every weekly date from now until the year 2056 when i would be 104 years old... the payment is £5 per week for the next 49 years!!!!!! can any one beat that... it would be laughable if it wasnt so sick!!!!!

Is no one happy with Tax Credits? Would anyone want to go back to not having it? Why do we never hear from the no doubt millions of people that have had huge financial burdens lifted by receiving tax credits?

    Perhaps they should be scrapped.
  • I have four demands of payment but they only have a record of three but my claim is still ongoing and all paperwork has been completed in time with any changes notified as soon as they happen - when I telephone they haven't a clue what I am talking about even though they have sent me the paperwork with dates on it!! I am disputing figures that don't match any paperwork that they have sent me and crucial phone calls that I have made to them convienently have not been recorded by tape or on the computer system.
