Payment Pending

I bought an item for £1.75 (+£3 postage) yesterday and paid immediately through Paypal. I went into My Ebay today and it had an eggtimer icon which I found meant 'payment pending' because the seller hasn't yet accepted the Paypal payment. What is going on here, if anything, I've never come across that before.
Thanks.

hmmm, did you use a credit card? if so maybe the seller's account doesn't accept them?
did you pay by e-cheque by accident, this takes a good while to clear...

It could be that ebay have the e cheque problem back again. A while ago payments were being converted to echeques for no apparent reason.

Your seller will have had an email saying that they should wait until payment clears before sending goods. The suggested clearance time is 4 days but in reality it can take up to 8 days or even more.

sorry, so you paid using monies that are already in your paypal account, and not any of the cards inked to your paypal account?

thats the only thing i can think of...weird, sorry not to be of more help

edit: i reckon soolin is right.
this has happened to me before with me having no idea how i managed to pay by e cheque, and to a buyer. i hate e cheques, they take ages to clear. i think the seller can tell you if it has gone through as an echeque as i dont think it shows up on your receipt if its done it by mistake

When a payment is pending, it could be just that the person who is to receive the money hasnt been to his/her account yet and accepted your payment. (They could be away or something like that). Whatever you do, do not click to pay again or your money will be sent to the seller. Or if you press cancel, it will cease the trading.

Speaking from personal experience lol... Silverfox

    Thanks.
It is strange though. I've emailed the seller for info on what is happening. He's got 99% positive feedback and over 300 items sold previously, but I was the only bidder and have wondered if he could withhold the sale because he expected more. He did have the item for 'Buy Now' for about £2.50 but I paid £1.75 being the only bidder. Surely I'm wrong thinking that?
  • The chances are the seller may of only just applied to accept payment by paypal which the first payment always has to be accepted so will be pending. this can also happen if you are buying internationally especialy from a south eastern country. Hope this helps.

Thanks all. The seller is in England and I paid by Paypal through my debit card (Switch) and have a Paypal receipt aknowledging my payment of £4.75. I've paid about 30 times this way and never had any problems.

Go into your paypal account to see what the status of the transaction is rather than relying on what ebay says. I had exactly the same situation where one of my buyers payments was showing as pending in selling manager, yet according to paypal the transaction was complete. Luckily the buyer was very understanding and not in a rush for the item and agreed to wait a week to see if anything would happen. It didn't and I sent the item off to him and never had any further problems with the payment.

I've just checked, it shows 'unclaimed.'
