Broadband speed

What is a good broadband speed to recieve? We currently have Virgin Media as too far from the exchange to recieve BT and get a maximum of 8meg.

Is this ok or do i need to increase the bundle i have with them?

i know they advertise that speeds are doubling but not happend to us yet.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
8Mbps is fine for most applications including streaming HD content from the iplayer.
IMHO You would benefit from higher broadband speeds if you have a house full of teenagers who are all on line together. Thats why BT are pushing Infinity to Students on the TV. Is not beardy offering double the speed for free?

Some people must have the fastest broadband speed possible for the bragging rights, bit like having an iPhone 5 on 4G!
That gum you like is coming back in style.

That is true - if that is the speed you are consistently getting. I was on a 16mbs package which at times delivered over 14mbs. At other times I was getting around 100Kbs - I couldn't even listen to BBC radio on it.

I am now paying more for BT Infinity 2, but at least I can listen to the radio without it dropping out :D

If you're on Virgin National, your BB speed will be the same as everyone else on any competitor. If you were on Virgin Cable, you'd really be flying. Changing providers will not really help you as they all use the same local loop, and all are the same distance from the exchange.

Only if BT Openrage upgrade your local lines to 'Infinity' standard, will there be any hope of an increase.
