Commuting to Work

30-45mins as a max. If it was a physical job or one that required driving around during the day then probably less but then I get tired easily and I know I couldn't drive home safely after the later shift.
It is a driving job and very physical, I would drive probably 150-200 miles max each shift. Driving at night is physically/mentally more draining as visibility is less0 -
Two really, to stay and commute or to try and find a new job nearer. As it's shift work, and wkends it means getting up earlier and getting home later. Bigger impact on family life
Yeah - but financially - what would your income be if you didn't go?
Take the cost of your commute out of your income and compare - plus the cost of your hourly rate and the time of course...as well as fuel and other vehicle costs.
Only you know whether it is worth it or not.
If it isn't - then find another job. Of course, being a recession - they aren't easy to come by.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
OP - I am faced with the same predicament.
Current commute - 15 minutes. New office commute - 1 hour each way at least.
Only, I don't like my job, I would be travelling at peak rush hour times and it would cost me a lot more in petrol/car maintenance etc. I'm looking for another job. Although as people know, that is much easier said than done!:(
Good luck!0 -
You have to work out how much the job is worth to you.
I did an hour (35 mile) commute for £10.5k but it was part-time, the only job in my field going and better than being on JSA. Luckily my OH sholdered most of the household bills. I now do the same commute but for £23.5K, which to me works out, even though travel costs take 11% of my total salary each month.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
The global average commute is 45 minutes - that includes people walking, driving, bus etc, so is a handy reference for what people the world over think of as average and acceptable. Personally I would accept the relocation and give it a try at the moment when frankly job options are pretty slim0

give it a go for a few weeks see how it goes now we are heading into darker days of winter. There's nothing to stop you looking for another job at the same time but I wouldn't leave until you've found one.0

So 28 miles a day extra at 19p/mile (petrol and wear and tear on a small car).
28miles * 0.19p * 5 (days per week) * 47 (weeks per year - assuming you get 5 weeks holiday) = £1250.20
So it's the equivalent of a £1250 pay cut.
That's not including your own time you waste sitting in traffic/commuting.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
It doesn't seem too bad to me..around here people easily do 70 miles trip for a job!
However-if they are not offering any extra money, I would possibly start looking around..I would do this until new job was on the cards though!0 -
Are they offering you any payoff if you don't move with the company? I am wondering why your two options are move with the ocmpany or try to find another job rather than move with the company and job hunt for something that suits you better? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

My commute to work by car is 30 miles each way and takes around 1 hour to get to work and around 50 mins on the way home (as I miss some of the rush hour).0
