I think that what I, you and other commentators 'think' people should be paid has very little influence on what people are paid; which is decided by availability and demand for skills. If I post this enough you might catch on.
I posted in this thread entirely to point out that someone working with very good benefits was happily ignoring those while complaining about their hourly salary.
Finally, I'm perfectly happy earning what I do. My salary was agreed with my employer who apparently believes, as do I, that by me doing my job the value created for them will exceed the cost of my employment.
The benefits don't always cancel out the negatives.
So what do you do for a living then? Have you saved anyones life today, or this month, or ever? Do you put your life at risk to save others??...I doubt it. Just remember pride comes before a fall.0 -

I'm a Business Analyst in the food industry; which obviously doesn't involve life saving in a normal day but then I'm not ignorant enough to think that is the only meaningful thing someone can do. I know what I do keeps the cost of food down and increases the amount produced and I'm happy with that contribution to society for now.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. £11ph is about the bottom of of Band 5 (£10.90ph) are you sure that's your hourly rate?0 -
Yes it is, I left nursing for a few years to work in the private sector (in business) earning loads more money but realised it really wasn't for me and missed being with patients, so went back into nursing, despite all my extra experience in industry and that fact I was equivalent to band 7 when I left, the hospital Trust refused to take this into account and would only start me at the bottom of band 5
It's interesting to note that I work in a regional coronary care unit where I had my placement when I was doing my return to practice course and they wouldn't let me go because of my skills (8 years in ICU prior to leaving the NHS) and now they treat me as the most senior staff member on duty despite the fact I am one of the most lower paid.
I love my job and don't do it purely for money, I wouldn't have taken a 50% wage cut if that was the only motivator, but I had a better pension in the private sector, equivalent sickness benefits etc, oh and by the way yes I do work 24/7 shifts.
I accepted all this when I came back into nursing, but I will not accept people derising all public sector workers for having fat cat salaries and gold plated pensions when that is clearly not the caseAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -

You mean that what you do keeps profits up, and quality down :rotfl:
Anyone could be trained to do your job, but not many people could be trained to do many of the emergency services jobs that you like to put down. I sure that most people think that they should earn far more than you do.
Just remember, one day you might need them.0
