Clearly what you are paid is sufficient to do that.
If it was, then there wouldn't be a shortage of nurses in the UK. Didn't you know that the NHS actually hires many from abroad.
What most people don't realise is that there are many very highly skilled people in public service, doing jobs that most people couldn't do half as well (anybody could pick vegetables). The government like to play down many public service roles to justify not paying them more. And they like to give the impression that they can just recruit replacements at the drop of a hat. Maybe they can if they lower standards, but what do you think the knock on effect would be if all the skilled doctors, nurses, paramedics, and firefighters left the job, and were replaced by people at a far lower standard???.....how many lives would be lost?0 -

knowing a couple of young nurses recently qualified and finding it difficult to get work, I'ld be interested to know how many nurses we recruit from abroad.0 -

I don't know the exact numbers, but I'm sure they are somewhere on the internet.
Maybe the problem was the fact that your friends are recently qualified, and they may be looking for experienced nurses.
It was a hospital manager who told me, and didn't go into much detail.0 -

without any facts it's difficult to comment
but maybe they can recruit experienced people for less money abroad but there is no general shortage of nurses in the UK0 -

And you know that for sure do you?? Are you a hospital manager like the person who told me??
Or does it just fit your agenda to think that??
I was making a true statement. If you are one of those people who has to have a link, then go and find it yourself. I don't need to, because I heard it from a person who hires nurses. Not just someone who knows a couple of newly qualified nurses.0 -

quote the hospital
quote the manager and I will ask him/her for the details and mention the names of the young nurses I know.
clearly no question of privacy, as details of their vacancies will be sufficient which will be in the public domain.0 -
I find that our company uses this 'current climate' as an excuse to freeze wages, even though we have increased our profit every year by around 15-20% for the past 4 years.
Last 3 pay rises I've had have been through changing jobs/company.0 -

Could it be a geographic/particular skill problem rather than a general one?
I am not aware of difficulty recruiting where we are.
Recruiting from abroad no doubt helps keep the cost down and they are available for work, straight away , without training I would suggest."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Rubbish. Teachers, police officers, civil servants, doctors etc can be paid very well and exist in effectively the same climate. Specialist nurses can earn in excess of £40k pa.grizzly1911 wrote: »You fail to mention that millie will also be doing 24/7 rotating shifts and will be lifting, moving , heavy weights in a physically demanding role.
I'll bet that she isn't. I know 4 nurses and not one of them works that pattern; although yes they do generally have to be more flexible about hours than most. Being a nurse is not a physically demanding role unless your baseline is sitting at a desk.
I don't need, or intend, to demean nurses, but I'm sick of seeing them treated as some kind of martyrs when there are people doing more demanding jobs for considerably less money, job security and benefits.grizzly1911 wrote: »Nice signature, BTW, I wonder where your priorities lie.
Wonder no more, my priority is being financially secure so I can focus on what I find important.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. Blackwhite bellyfeel double plus good...0
