You could always come to the feline equivalent of Crufts, the Supreme Cat Show! Taking place at the NEC on the 24th November: Lula & I will be there! Lula will be competing for her 2nd Imperial certificate, and I'll be spending loads of money at the stalls ;)

I wouldnt go - The Kennel Club standards for 'Breeds' are ruining them!
Take British Bulldogs for example - They were bred for Bull Baiting and then Bear Baiting - could any of the breed these days do that? not the wheezy, lumbering examples I've seen. If you look at old paintings of Bulldogs they look more like Staffys or Pitbulls - Muscular Athletic dogs in prime condition. The Breed Standards are shameful - These 'modern' dogs are pitiful - a prime example of man wanting to 'exaggerate' features he finds pleasing - to the extent they become a disfigurement.

But what are cat owners like if you want to pet their moggy? Is there Discover Cats???

Hey, but you don't have to go near the breeds! I certainly didn't and we had a wonderful time ('though having a dog for people to hug & cuddle was a great experience.) There's lots of fun to be had with watching flyball, agility, gundog training as well as all those trade stands where there might be the very odd freebie.
As I said before I am not into pedigree dogs and never saw one bit of a show ring but it was a great, but exhausting day out.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Even more of a reason to go so you can see for yourself whether it is ethical or not.

Why? I can see many examples while sitting in my vets waiting room. There will be GSDs with Hip Dysplasia, Wheezy asthmatic sounding Bulldogs, Boxers with similar breathing problems and some having to have dental surgery because their jaws are seriously out of alignment. These are 'Pedigree' dogs - mutts dont seem to have the same probs. Some problems are breed specific and the vets and even the breeders will tell you about those!

If the cat is comfortable with being petted then many owners will let you ;) No, there isn't a Discover Cats, but there's plenty of other things to keep cat lovers amused, the two shows don't need to mirror each other do they?

I can imagine if I took my Frankie to a cat show ( he isn't a pedigree so I wouldn't but for talking sake) he would LOVE it, he thrives on attention and is always upto something. Today he stole an iced donut, came in, sat it down at OH feet and proceded to eat the WHOLE thing... what a wierdo.

I get what you are saying.. SharPei's are a breed that spring to mind. However if people realised what was happening it could be avoided. My breed the GSD it's hip dysplasia that is the common disfigurement, I made sure my pups parents were hip/elbow scored, it doesn't 100% mean Logans will be fine but goes a long way in helping. Sadly though a lot of people buying pups don't think of health tests and just buy the cheapest pup of the particular breed :(
